    Hello all,
Thanks for having me! I have been a die hard 1911 fan for many years, now nearing retirement I find myself attracted to the Glock. I have yet to acquire my first Glock but hope to learn the ins and outs of the various models here.

Welcome to G.T. from southern Illinois. I am also a 1911 shooter and converted to Glocks out of practicality.

Hello, if you’ve struggled to see the sights like when you were younger then I’d recommend trying an MOS model with a red dot sight. They all work well so I’d just get the one that fits you best.

Welcome to the forum Bob! Like any other handgun, I suggest that if at all possible, find yourself a local shooting range that rents handguns, and if they rent what you're interested in give it/them a try first. This is a great way of finding out whether or not what you're interested in fits and feels comfortable in your hand, whether it racks easily, offers recoil that you can handle, and whether you can operate the controls effectively ~before~ shelling out the cash for one. Many people have been heavily influenced and seduced by manufacturer's slogans and complete strangers on internet discussion forums and have purchased firearms blindly only to find out after they'd slammed down the cash for one that the thing sucks(!), and they end up taking a loss in funds when they're forced to sell or trade it off. Please don't be that guy!

    Thanks for the welcome!

I have fired several different Glock pistols and while I am comfortable with them I have never used one enough to become proficient with one. We don't have a range within an hours drive that rents guns as far as I know but I would like to have that option. I do know several people that have guns that I can try and I'll probably do so before plunking down any serious $$.

I have to have a little bolder sights than I used to and I just recently purchased an RMR type sight to try, I just haven't mounted it on anything yet. I do think I'll like it though.

    Welcome to GT, Bob!

You can't really go wrong with a Glock 9mm. Even if it turns out not to be your favorite flavor in the long run, nice to have.

Welcome from NW GA!...now find your local stocking dealer, and try out as many as are in-stock...then make your choice

I don't have any local dealers, I'm pretty far out in the sticks, little town of about 600 people so I have to drive to get to a dealer. I do plan to get to one as soon as I can though. The closest dealers are only showing a couple of Glocks each in stock. To start out I'm looking at the full size guns a 17 or some derivative, possibly a 20 or 21sf.

Sounds like a plan...I just wanted to stress having as much hands-on before buying as is possible in your area

Hello and Welcome. It's hard to beat a G19 as your first Glock.

B58, welcome to Glock Talk. The pistols you are looking at are great choices. The fullsized guns. G20,G21, look at Gen 4 models or the SF models. If you have small or medium sized hands. I have a Gen 2 20, its an early model. Not a SF model. It feels like a brick in my medium sized hands with long fingers. I can shoot it very well. But the SF or Gen 4 full sized frame fits my hand better. Plus the gen 4 has back straps to add for the grips. For different sized hands.
The 17 is a great choice. 17 +1, or with the 19X magazine 19+ 1. Look at the gen 5. They make ameriglo factory night sights with a orange front sight with green rear night sights. They are very user friendly. Very easy to see. Although a gen 5 19 would be a great choice.
