So apparently I got stuck with what looks like a beat up first gen G20C. Not to much a worry, as I will be replacing many parts anyway, including the barrel with my new shiney 9x25 dillon lone wolf.

my question is, since its gen1 (how do i really tell, serial number range chart anywhere?) can i get an aftermarket frame that has a rail on it? this is the biggest drawback, i loooove laser lights and was very much looking forward to having it on this as the light combo i have does not fit my 22 mosquito (frames to short to the trigger, wont seat right).

ive looked but i cant find anyone that sells g20c frames! i dont care what its made of but id perfer it not be heavier (ie alum or steel).

second question, if no one makes it, can i get a replacement 4th gen frame and still have it fit/function with all the old parts? if not, what will need changing if doable at all?

The 4th Gen frame will not work with the older slide. You need a 3rd Gen frame.

There is no difference between a G20 frame and a G20C frame.

Glock will replace the frame for you!
I called and the cost to replace a beat up frame on my model 22 is only 44.00!
They also said they will go over entire firearm etc for safety etc.
Mine will be shipped off tomorrow.
The website has it listed at 150.00, but when I spoke to them, twice, it was 44.00 for a complete frame replacement.

If somebody told you they were selling you a Gen1 G20C, then you were indeed misled. They never made the G20C as a Gen1. Only the G17, G18, and a very small number of G19's as Gen1's.

There isnt a Gen 1 G20, the G20 frame is the same whether the slide and barrel is compensated or not. Glockmeister sells frames as well as Glock will sell you a replacement frame from the factory. You will need to have it sent to an ffl since the BATFE considers the frame the actual firearm.

Damn another transfer fee and shipping to eat!

Is there a way of telling by the serial number what "generation" a particular glock belongs to?

The best way is to just look at the frame. Gen 1 has no finger grooves or rail, and has a rough texture all the way around the grip. Second gens dont have finger grooves or rails either, but the texture is different. Gen 3 has finger grooves and rail. Gen 4 has finger grooves, rail, and a new rough texture finish.

Glock replaced the frame on my Gen 2 23 with a Gen. 3.
The G23 was delivered to my home via Fed X.
I didn't have to do a transfer as Glock took care of the paperwork.

I wanted my old frame back but they said they had to destroy it.
    Now I have a Gen. 2/3 Glock 23 with non-matching numbers.
