I'm thinking of picking up a 1911 and everything I've read seems to indicate the SW1911 are some of the best out of the box reliable 1911s, especially at their price range. I'm looking at the standard 5" e series model. Would you guys recommend one?

I like the E series Smiths.

They don't have the firing pin safety, which is always a plus.

That was one of the features I noticed. Are there any 1911s you would caution somone to stay away from, specifically any that are in direct competetion with the SW1911 E Series?

I have had my E series for almost a year. No issues, shoots great.

Glad to have it re-affirmed that the E-Series are solid weapons. In fact, the small amount of replies shows this too. If there were any widespread problems, I bet I'd have 3 pages telling me to avoid them and that they are crap.

Unless I'm mistaken there are two pistols for around that price
That have forged frames and slides with high quality internal parts. Colt and S&W. I have an e series. The thing is awesome - highly recommended. You won't be disappointed.

Many are waiting for a bare bones Melonite E Series 1911 with no FCS. They would fly off the shelves.

I have been very happy with my E series; no issues with it.
