Just watching Age of Heroes with Sean Bean, on Netflix. Pretty good WW II movie about a British commando mission in early WW II. One of the better WW II movies I've seen - not Saving Private Ryan, but better than most.

    Battleground.

I am still shocked weeks later how cerebral this movie was. So LITTLE to do with actual combat. Most of it dealing with the hassles-to-horrors of war. You always assume life was "simpler" in the late 40's. Nope!

If it's a Sean Bean show, then Sean Bean's going to die because Sean Bean never survives any of the movies/TV shows he's in.

    Good & true point.

    I would add

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1558575/

I enjoyed it as much if not more than Memphis Belle honestly.

    A Walk in the Sun

One of the best. Just half a day of an Army platoon in Italy, taking a farm house. Has some great actors in it.

I wonder how many younger folks have never seen The Big Red One.

If you pardon the drift toward comedy, I always enjoy the odd occasioned showing of Kelly's Heros.

At least the Tiger tanks look like Tiger tanks and I laugh to this day when Oddball's paint shell splats up against the back of the Tiger turret.

Low budget but very well done.

Lots of low budget but well made Euro movies the last few years about WWII.

    Absolutely agree.

Also very good is "The Story of G.I. Joe."

Passage to Marseilles. One of the lesser known Humphrey Bogart films.

Not many. I mentioned the title to a young guy and he asked me if it was the title of a porno.

No, I didn't smack him but he was serious.

Just a shade after WWII but a damn good movie:

What kind of idiot releases that movie here in America? I don't give a rip about foreign armies, unless they are dying at the hands of Americans. Making a Korean War film without any Americans is blasphemous. What's next? A movie about brave Afghani security forces bravely fighting back Muslim extremists? Hogwash.
