Well I usually don't share much personal information but just found out I have to have surgery tomorrow.

About 5 weeks ago I was helping an elderly neighbor with some work he needed done on his roof. I went to get the ladder and when I did I felt a pop around my elbow and it hurt like heck. I knew I pulled or ripped something. I also knew that If I went on base they would just take a X-ray and say that didn't show anything so now you need a MRI. So I just thought I would wait it out and see if it would get better like my My ripped MCL did. It didn't

2 weeks still hurt so had a tele-appointment with the base hospital and they put in the referral for a orthopedic surgeon. Kept waiting for the referral to go through and for the Doctor office to call me. Nothing.

Well Tuesday I tried to cut a few small limbs with the loppers and bam I made is worse. I called the Ortho office and they said sorry we are still awaiting an opening for you. Well I explained I was in pain and they said since you have the referral go ahead and use our ortho trauma walk-in! Really? after waiting 3 weeks for a appointment.

The nurse practitioner yelled at me for waiting so long before coming in. Really! Only 2 weeks was my fault. So she said they would call to Schule a MRI. Shortly after I went home they called and said we have an cancellation can you come now from a MRI. Yes. MRI went well said see the Ortho surgeon tomorrow. Well that was today and he wants to preform the surgery to find and reattach my bicep tendon.

This will be the first real surgery for me. Not bad for 58, and to many hard years lugging equipment around all over the earth . Still little scary never been totally knocked out before.

    Prayers would be appreciated.

I made it to 33 before my first “real” surgery. You’ll be fine and back home in no time.

Yikes. I have been knocked out before and unless you have an allergic reaction to whatever they use, it ain't bad at all. Make sure to do whatever PT they tell you to do. Prayers incoming

Best of luck to you and be sure to follow doctors advice including for any needed physical therapy and any weight restrictions on that arm no matter how good it feels to you. Being knocked out is no big deal. The anesthesia doc/nurse will talk to you before hand.

My bicep tendon was ripped pretty good too, before my shoulder replacement. They reattached it after hammering in a titanium rod and joint, like a hollow chicken bone, doc said lol!! Good luck!

The process sounds frustrating. You are handling it better than I could. Hang in there and stay off your neighbor's roof!

Don’t rush your recovery. Take your time. Do your P.T. and you will be back to lopping in 12 weeks. Best of luck and prayers.

    GOOD LUCK!

I broke a hip at age 30 in a bike wreck. Needed three screws, three months on crutches, and a three times a day P.T. regime.

When it comes to P.T. don't try to be a superman and do more than is recommended, or think you are ahead of schedule. If you're not careful you can undo the surgeon's work.
