I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions on bullets they've used while reloading for the 357 sig, with emphasis on expansion and consistency.

I've been leaning towards Hornady's XTP, but want to consider the other brands as well.

    Thanks

    Nick

    Nick,

I have reloaded for the .357 Sig and used Sierra bullets. BUT - those loads were just for practice on the range and I never checked expansion or consistency. I didn't use them for hunting and only carry factory ammo for CCW purposes.

Gold Dot bullets are pretty hard to beat for expansion and consistency from my experience. I've heard, and read, good reports on Hornady but no first hand knowledge on their performance.

    Regards,
    Phil

I load the .357 Sig for field use only. The Sierra 90grn.HP pushed to 1600fps or so is excellent for the purpose.

Speer 125gr GDHP. This bullet is specifically designed for the .357sig

The SIerra fragments badly @ 357sig speeds, accurate, but not my choice for that vel. level. The Speer 125grGD is your best bet. You can also load the 135gr/357GDSB to 1275fps, does a good job in wetpack. The 124grXTP works well too @ 1300fps+.

Exactly! If I have to launch rounds, I want something that I can depend on to get into the "hydraulic and pneumatic" or "data processing and storage" housing groups.

Also, since I didn't hunt 4-legged animals, I figured what the heck. If I have to take out a bad guy I wouldn't have to clean him anyway!

Ah well, too many years on the street.

Agree, it's why I would NOT trust the Sierra to get it done. It fragments in a 1gal jug of water w/ only pieces striking the 2nd jug. This is at 1350fps imapct vel.

At www.midwayusa.com they list 357 SIG bullets along with 9mm but they describe them like this:
"Speer Gold Dot Bullets 357 Sig, 38 Super (355 Diameter) 125 Grain Jacketed Hollow Point Box of 100"

Gold Dots, Golden Sabres, and XTP's. Don't know much about all copper bullets.
