Jeez, everybody knows that "black powder" is just a euphemism for lead. You don't want to scare anybody by mentioning lead, that stuff can kill you.

This may be the best post I ever read on a gun board.

Stupid stuff heard at the range?

I had a guy tell me that the 45 Colt is called the 45 Long Colt to distinguish it from the 45 Auto.
He had never heard of the 45 Schofield.

The best thing I ever did to improve accuracy was to back way off on my crimp.
    Amazing improvement in accuracy.

Not at the range, but I struck up a conversation with the guy behind the counter at Gander Mountain (I had a gift card, only reason I'd go there). I mentioned that I cast my own bullets (9mm) and powder coat them, and he told me the coating is super-abrasive and will wear out my barrel incredibly fast. I don't know how many thousands of rounds of my coated bullets I have through that barrel, but it still looks great.

It was five hours into the state required six hour course for a CCDW. I toughed it out. It wasn't like I was learning anything, it was just a dog and pony show to take my money to exercise my rights.

That actually isn't so stupid, just uniformed, it has been tossed around for decades.

Yeah i heard this too. So did a bunch of research before i started coating. There are metallic powders, possibly that would cause some sort of wear but i can't imagine any more wear than cupronickel.

How come my tray of CCI 500 primers only had 100 primers in it?

I kid you not, true question!

That one reminds me of a girl, a friend of mine was dating years go. She had bought a new car and was showing it off, when someone asked her how much gas it held. "Duh, a full tank." Was her reply.

Good thing she was good looking because I have met rocks with more common sense.

You can't possibly miss with a shotgun.

Why do I have to put the hammer down when I know it's clear?

I feel strongly both ways. (My own contribution)

Of course I know how to shoot, I have a carry permit.

Not said, but halfway through an IDPA stage, when his gun stopped, he stopped and raised his non-shooting hand (at least, he got that right...)

I still remember the guy's name, the RO, place and time for this one, shooting a Wednesday night indoor match back in 2004.

Ray was running a shooter everyone called "Mongo", who was shooting a revolver that night. He was having issues with it firing all 6 rounds on the first try on the first couple of stages and was clicking through a second time to get some to go off.

So a few stages into the match and "bang, click, bang, bang, click, click, click, click, click, click, click..." Then, he lowers the gun from the shooting position and turns it up range pointing the barrel at his face to look into the cylinder to see how many bullets are left.

He didn't get to finish the match that night...
