Looking to get a TLR-7 for my G45

I know they make different TLR-7s with different activations switches - one looks to be a side button, the other looks to be a rear button - which do you guys prefer and works better?
I have average sized hands so reaching either of the buttons i don't think would an issue for me - thoughts?

Also - I noticed in some pictures I've seen of the TLR-7 it has a red stripe on the front lens housing with some wording on it for the lockout feature - however, I have also seen pictures of this without this red stripe and wording - is this just a sticker that can be removed? I think the red does not look good and want an all black. I am sure I will be able to figure out and work the lockout feature without this red stripe!

The picture below shows the red stripe... It is also the "rear switch" model as opposed to the side switch model.

Any other thoughts to the TLR-7? I really like streamlight products and am thinking this is the perfect choice for my G45.
Thanks guys!

I have a TLR-7 with the switch on the side near the rear. Perfect location for my left thumb. My favorite thing about it is how the light sits flush with the muzzle of my G19. I hate the longer ones that stick way out past, plus they get dirty from gasses and powder after just a few shots.

Do you think switching was worth the money and upgrade just for different activation switches, even if you do like the new ones better? TLR-7a's are $125-140 or so from what I've seen.

What did you do with your old one? Want to sell it? :)

I think if I bought one I would get the TLR-7a just to have the options or running a high or low switch.
But not sure if I had an original with side switch that I would change?

What are you running the 7a on? a G19?

Thunderstruck,

I also have the original TLR-7 and have changed it out for the TLR-7A with the upper switches on both sides. If my trigger finger and support hand thumb were both about 1/4" longer I probably wouldn't have made the switch but such is life. I currently have the TLR-7A mounted on my P320 X-Compact and also use it with my P320 Carry and G-19 as well. The light sticks out past the end of my X-Compact just slightly but pretty much aligns with the end of the barrel on my P320 Carry and G-19. Definitely worth the price to switch them out if you have difficulty activating the original TLR-7 without readjusting your grip.

Oh, the red sticker can be taken off as there's no reason to keep it on after you unpackage the light.

I carry a G21 Gen 4 setup for 45 Super for Bear Protection in Alaska. I used the Streamlight TLR 7 and liked it very much. I used a side holster mole type and noticed if I press just right on the holster the light comes on either by sitting or walking in rough terrain. It caused me a dead battery and light.
I am going to switch to the TLR 7A with the bottom switch to maybe solve this problem of accidental activation of the light while hunting.
