I was getting some gas for the van and two young men who I had seen walking across the parking lot in front of my van were suddenly up on me when I got distracted by the pump. My wife kinda caught my attention, the window was down and I saw them...I put my hand near my pistol and asked them what they wanted...one of them mumbled something and they took off at a fast clip..but they kept looking back at us..My wife already had her pistol in her hand.

I thought about it for a few seconds and I called the cops...I explained to them that they never approached after I asked them what they wanted, but that they looked awful suspicious...a short time later I came back by the station and I saw both young men detained by one cop and another cop talking to a store employee...

Interesting day...BTW, my firearms instructors told me to call the cops anytime I even think I was going to have to pull a gun...mainly to cover myself..

Calling the police just for thinking about pulling a gun doesn't make any sense to me. After a couple of calls the police would think I was just a wanna be or someone "crying wolf". I would definitely call if the incident reached the level of me actually drawing my firearm, and of course if I have the fire the gun as well. I've had a few situations where I had my hand in my pocket, holding my gun and ready to draw it out of the pocket holster in my pocket, but if it got no further than that I would not even consider calling it in.

Yup, they were up to no good. Good idea to have them checked out.

I don't know that I would report of thinking about doing something unless I actually had to show that I was armed and they saw it.

I've seen too many Active Self Protection videos that start just like that.

You have a good woman, Critch.
Calling the PoPo to checked out sketchy people, who may have just probed your perimeter and possibly cased you for a robbery, makes all kind of sense to me. By choosing to not calling the cops on such people, you may be enabling said dirt bag to ply his trade on someone else.

Tough call. I can see both sides. I don’t think it hurt to have LE check them out.

Were they coughing? Shoot them all and let god sort them out.
Wait what were we talking about?

I don’t approach people at a gas station, you might get shot.

Those eagle scouts better find a different way to earn their badges. Trying to help elderly folk pump gas will get you detained. :af:

    Action BEATS Reaction......

To those who said they wouldnt have called the police...????
(How close does the threat have to be before reacting?)
*Apparently, they were “close enough” to converse with (they mumbled back) when he asked what they wanted.*

So....with them being that close, somewhat conversing and witnessing some one with a firearm, who’s to say they themselves wouldn’t have called police and reported a person brandishing a firearm.

For the record; calling the cops on them was the right thing to do. If more people did that there'd be a bit less crime happening.
I've called the cops on A-holes many times over the years and never, never did I think it was unwarranted. Most of the time it resulted in an arrest for something that happened that they were involved in earlier or upon a Terry stop frisk, drugs and such were found which resulted in an arrest. If someone's acting hinky, they're hinky.

Well, we did have hand sanitizer and paper towels...:)

Well, it's a fairly small town and having worked for the court just before I retired most of the cops know me...heck, most of them went to school with my kids..I was taught that if it reached a certain level you called the cops.

I almost didn't call, but then I decided that they may be looking for a target.

The simple fact that the cops found the guys and investigated tells me you did the right thing by calling.
