Digital glitch in camera or computer, a stray Cosmic ray, spike in the camera's electronics, a quriky double exposure, data loss during transfer from camera due to bad/dirty connetion or intermittant cable failure etc...

We geeks in my college called it a Phantom Glitch! We even wrote a cartoon for a while starring Data Man and his arch enemy the Phantom Glitch!

    :brickwall:  :crying:

I take several pics of each subject due to such possibilities and I take multiple snap shots with a film camera as well.

Is that a electronic voter machine in the back ground?

It does seem like some glitch or something. Is it happening to all shots or just that one ?

It happened to three shots taken in a row there. They were from slightly different angles but nothing else changed. Nothing before, I shot a good 50 pics that morning, and nothing later that day, another 250 pics, showed anything at all out of the ordinary.

Yup, that is a voting machine. I took my student working on Citizenship when I voted because she had so many questions. :)

JPEG actually. Odd for me to have used it. I didn't want to take up too much time while others were waiting to vote so I used one of the auto modes.

Could be some problem with reading the date from the sensor or a problems when the file was converted to JPEG.

That is the most logical reason anybody has had.

I haven't had any problems since then. None before them either, that wasn't the direct result of user error.

    Still is intriguing.

Looking at the picture, my first thought was it might be the flash sync. Just a guess.

If it was a problem with flash sync then the line would be horizontal and not curve like it does around the head.

Here is a second pic of her...

The way it curves around her head is so strange. And it is even stranger in this shot.
