Looking for opinions. When ever my cat drinks she meows 2-3 times then lays down. She pushes her back paws against the wall and then keeps pawing at the ground with the front then dunks half her face in the water to drink. At first I thought the bowl might be too big but then I realized she wouldn't lay down if that was the case.

I vote for just being strange like all cats. Anyone else?

I'm wondering what's in the bowl. Water, right? You're supposed to give them water.;Q

Cats are weird little fluff balls.

Cats learn by example or develope and odd behaviours on thier own.

My adult cat, Precious, sleeps on her back with her feet in the air, I got her when she was 18 moths old. My kitten, Goldie, slept in the bathroom for 12 days until Precious accepted the fact she wasn't leaving and calmed down. Goldie didn't start to do sleep on her back until she saw Precious doing that.

Precious drinks from the opposite side of the bowl she is standing or sitting on but eats from the same side she sits?
    Goldien now does that too.

Goldie would sit on a chair and watch Precious and me play. I would hang my arms off the bed to play with her and Precious and watch them play. Now I find Goldie sitting and hanging her legs off the chair or bed, watching me and Precious playing?

It was the custom for my ancestors in ancient Rome to eat and drink while reclining.

Althought I must say that I didn't believe in it until now, it seems your cat is the reincarnation of a high-bred ancient Roman, and is only doing what is polite and proper while drinking.

Well? Does anyone have a better explanation?

I vote for strange like all cats.

We have one cat who waits every morning for me to put fresh cold water in the bowl. Then he sips from the BACK of the bowl.

    Strange cat...

My daughter's cat does this too. She actually will just lay around her water bowl and leisurely drink when she feels like it.

Peeky dips each of her front paws in the water dish prior to getting a drink. Why? No one knows. ;Q

I have 5 cats and 3 dogs. (Cheaper than kids, since my wife works at a vet clinic)

The dogs are all predictable, while the cats always continue to surprise me.

One cat has to knock the water bowl and drink the water off of the floor. Not a big deal in my book, but my wife blows a gasket when she witnesses the act.

It's also fun to watch the 80 pound pointer get his butt kicked by a 15 pound cat.

My boys are now BIG fans of drinking from the bathroom sink.........I don't leave it dripping all the time, but they are getting alot more water than they ever have and so now there are LOTS and LOTS of huge clumps in the pottie box now.........

It's a good thing that they are both getting more water.........

Just wished Max would sit to pee instead of standing and peeing all over the back wall of the box and lid.......gads.........

.......well at least he pees in the box.........;Q ;f

Precious will "test" the water too. Dip, shake, sling, dip, shake, sling.

Goldie, the kitten, will try to sling the whole bowl of water one paw dip at a time!
