Anyone shot one of these or have any info on it? I got the bug again for a double stack 1911/2011 but the magwell puts me off since this would be for carry and all around use.

The STI Tactical is awesome, but i dont know how great it would be for CC. Definitely great for competition and range use

you can take the magwell off.

what caliber are you looking to get?
mags will probably need tuning for the gun to run reliably.

i like my gamercool magwell :animlol:

it can be carried w/o a magwell. the grip is thinner than a 1911 w/ standard grips.

it's slightly thinner, but is slightly longer (front to rear).
the circumference is larger because of the blockier frontstrap.

Taking off the magwell would indeed completely change the dimensions. Wasnt even thinking of that

Roomate has one that he uses for duty. Its a good gun now. But it had to go back to STI twice to get some bugs worked out. If you get one buy it from Dawson precision or Brasos custom and pay for the reliability package. Its worth it. I bought my edge in 40sw which is simular to the Tactical from Dawson with the reliablity packadge and its been a 100% gun for me. I use it for competition.

You can take the mag well off if you chose for concealed carry.

Have an STI 2011 for my primary duty gun (in 45ACP). As Alasakpopo stated I needed to send it back twice for tune-up work. I bought it in 2003 directly from STI (didnt know then that "custom" STI means "make sure to get it tuned because it will not work until you do". However, after it was fixed it has worked flawlessly for years. Like most 1911 style handguns there is a lot more maintenance inolved than Glocks. This gun is used in most of my competition shooting as well so it does get work.

I did some quick measurements this morning:

the 2011 is ~.04" skinnier than a 1911 with standard grips.

the 1911 is ~.05" shorter (front to back) than the 2011.

    Circumference:
    2011 - 5 5/8"
    1911 - 5 3/8"

Sonuvagun! FCS that actually make the gun look BETTER!

But I'm not sure I like what looks like "wear" around the front of the slide in the pic by Alaskapopo ? Is your gun and his gun finished differently? His looks like a glossier finish.

I have one in 9x19 and I am building another in 40 right now.

My 9x19 has a threaded barrel and Rogers Custom tall sights so I can shoot it with a can.

The Tactical is a great split between the Edge and the Eagle. The Edge is pretty heavy and I dont care for the looks of the Eagle.
