With South Carolina doing so bad this year Steve Spurrier has announced he is going to resign immediately.

I guess it is better to quit than to be fired.

He has really stayed too long as it is...

he should have stayed out of coaching after he left the NFL. He has never come close to what he accomplished at Florida, and probably never would.

Never liked the guy, but it looks like he let his players down by quitting.

He was 6-6 in the regular season last year and this year has a 2-4 record, 0-4 in the conference, giving up an average of 29 points again while scoring 18.....and he lost to Kentucky. Again. This time at home. The End.

They had a real shot at 2-10 this year. I would not be surprised if The Citadel beats them.

"Resignations" like this are usually a matter of the school allowing them to save face.

I kinda feel bad for the guy after he did so much to turn that program around. I'd have never guessed it would end this way.

As a fan of their arch-rival, I hate to admit but he did get that program to places they have never been before. They did a complete 360.

Started bad, 180 to good, and 180 again back to bad. Most people don't realize how bad it is until they look at SC's recruiting. They have a good QB coming in and got a pretty good DT commit (the day Spurrier announced he was leaving, figure that one out) but I don't think much else.

That said my hatred of Spurrier ended Tuesday at noon. Now I wish him the best.
