I made it almost through page 4 before Vart mentioned Iowa. I've traveled through Iowa many times and failed to find anything of interest, although the people seem to be nice.

I've traveled less through Illinois but suspect it's worse than Iowa, and from what I saw in Ohio I'd add that state to the list. Indiana might have made the list except I did once travel through the southern part of the state and went through a very nice, hilly area that reminded me of where I live.

The Plains States can be a chore if you're on a timetable to get somewhere but if you are at leisure the stark scenery and isolation has a beauty of its own. I remember many nights driving when I charted my course just by looking at the lights of the towns distant. Once driving through Kansas during late springtime on I-70 I had to pull over on the shoulder to relieve myself. It was close to sunset, driving West. I walked to the back of the car and the setting sun bathed the surrounding grasslands with a wondrous glow, and I think I could see 100 miles to the East with the highway oh-so-gradually sloping downward. It was an experience I've remembered since.

No really, it is. It is also the most densely populated state in the union, at about 1180 idiots /sq mile.

A married couple I know moved to California years ago and invited me to visit. It was a huge culture shock to say the least. Too many people, too much pollution, horrible traffic, etc. There was some pretty parts I got to see but it isn't anywhere I would live. I like Chicago for the museums and food but that's it. My mom is from central Illinois and I don't particularly care for the state. Driving from Chicago to Lincoln is boring.

The whole megacity extending up from Richmond all the way to Boston could be wiped from the face of the earth, and humanity would be better off.

Born Texan here, still living in Texas because good jobs are available and I have been fortunate to have a good job my whole life living in Texas. Texas has NO STATE INCOME TAX, one of only a handful of states smart enough to know that a state income tax is bad. I very much agree with you about the Texas heat, summers are brutal in Texas, no doubt, however, the very mild winters that we usually have are very nice, pick your poison. Texas is a huge state with beauty everywhere, from the Texas hill country, the panhandle, and the Big Bend area of West Texas. Texas has hundreds of miles of beaches, best beaches are in the Padre Island/Corpus Christi area. A strong economy, great job market, mild winters, and a lot of diverse and beautiful country. There is a reason why a whole lot of people are moving TO Texas instead of moving AWAY from Texas. The below picture was taken at Big Bend National Park, Sunset at the Window, view from Chisos Mountain Lodge.

I say extend it down to that cesspool, Atlanta, and we are in agreement.

Atlanta: horrible traffic, worse "rap" music than the already awful rap music in existence, cooker cutter homes jacked up on each other....

I live in Atlanta and love it. People are nice here. The weather is great, though it does get warm in the summer. Traffic is not really all that bad, unless you live in the burbs and are trying to commute into the city. If you live in the city proper, it's easy enough to get around. Certainly nothing like Northern Virginia, where I lived for years and fled like a rat leaving a sinking ship. Northern Virginia is intolerable. :wow:

I was raised in the Cleveland area and lived in Michigan above
Ann Arbor from 1980-1990. I love Michigan and the people are very friendly. You just have to avoid Ann Arbor, Flint, Detroit, etc and you can enjoy the real Michigan.

If Texas ever gets the second amendment we have a plan to merge Louisiana in. It would be the perfect state: Texana

All that we want from Louisiana are the casinos and we can get them easier by swiping them from Oklahoma.

Those that disaparage the land of Superior, the UP, forget what a wonderful delicacy a properly-made pasty is.

Only downside, everything will be covered in iron dust in 3.41 femtoseconds and during the summer one does not use a fly swatter for the deer flies. A baseball bat works mostly, but even Russian SAMs have been known to be ineffective.

I'm from Ohio and love Michigan.

I see you're from NW lower MI. You might have a slightly different opinion if you were from NE lower Mi.

Did you mean SE lower MI? The NE part of the lower is decent, but the Lake Huron shoreline isn't nearly as interesting or pretty as the Lake MI shore.

You're right, I meant South East.
