I guess the name tag and shield number wasn't sufficient.

NYPD Officers Will Now Give Out Name Cards During Stops
    By Dean Meminger | October 18, 2018 @7:35 AM

NEW YORK - A new law takes effect this Friday requiring city police officers to share their full names and ranks with people they stop on the street.

They will hand out business cards under the new Right to Know Act.

The cards have information on the back about how to file a complaint against an officer and obtain police body camera video.

Officers must also inform people that they have the right to say no to some searches.

The City Council passed the law in January after years of battling the NYPD.

"A lot of people don't feel comfortable being able to go up to a cop when they think something went wrong and say hey can I get your badge and name. Because they are afraid of escalation. They don't need to worry about that," said City Councilman Antonio Reynoso.

To learn more about the Right to Know Act, go online to nyc.gov/rtka or call 311.

If I were unfortunate enough to have to work there, I would have some ‘special’ cards printed up for such a special occasion

I never had a problem giving out business cards to contacts in the ghetto or in the barrio. Most people do not carry a pencil during their daily activities.

Don't forget 20% of the street cops do 80% of the work. i.e. 80% of cops are slackers and they are the ones who have issues with the public, supervision and management. They are the ones who do not want to be identified.

The Pareto Principle indeed. Lets not get started why some guys/gals can not qualify. :cop:

New York City government employs 325,000 people, more than any other city in the United States. They likely have a Printing Department and the Civil Servants who make business cards all day will likely get paid $120K annually.

I was doxxed recently. The leftists followed up with visits to my neighborhood.

Lots of lip service but little movement from the US Attorney's Office.

Meh, my name's on my uniform and shield, and I carry business cards, so no big deal. One more hoop to jump through that in the long run just means more litter on the street. I might write in "busted by" for arrestees.

For a time, we had to identify ourselves by name and rank upon approach during MV stops.

I don't publish who I work for here.

Good. So when I send a few gift cards for a local coffee shop to the PD as a thank you for the great service, I can finally add a little note with the full name and rank.

I always handed out my business card. I stated if they needed to make a complaint to make sure they spelled my name right .

my name is on my shirt. they usually get themselves in a tizzy when they try to pronounce it. I tell em it's hard, but here is how it goes... syllable by syllable. I usually tell em to take a pic too in case they forget.

we don't really do business cards here.
