I'm feeling pretty fed up with the less than stellar economy, weather, and dirty hippies here in the Twin Cities.

If you were to do it over again and make a fresh start what would you do for a living and where?

I think you ought to move to Haight-Ashbury and sell medical weed, man.

Colorado, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, etc. Somewhere out there. Off road, hunting, shooting, weather is ok, and all have beautiful scenery.

But as is, I'm content here in NC... sort of. When I'm out of college, we'll see where I end up.

If it were just me and me alone... I would find a firearm or ammo related job. I would love to have a job at a decent gun store or with a reputable gun manufaturer. Gunsmith, ammo manufacturer, something like that.

If I were to really turn back the hands of time I would have gotten my degree in civil engineering and had people pay me lots of money to design bridges and off ramps.

Or if I was to stay in this field I would have gone to work for the Santa Clara County SO. They don't get paid that much more than me but they have a really good group of people working for them. Santa Clara and Sunnyvale make more cash but you have to put up with some pretty big egos.

When I retire the sky will pretty much be the limit in terms of where we can live. As long as my parents live local and my wife's family stays here we probably will stay pretty close. If not then we will probably bail for either Los Osos, CA or somewhere between Jackson and Carson City.

I would have joined the military.

No regrets, as I love my life, but if I could/had to do it over, I would have joined the military....maybe even gone straight out of college instead of watching my "ethnic studies" professor write "AmeriKKKa" on the chalk board.

    Yes, really......

that's all I can say for do-overs. Other than that, I would have been born a Trump or Gates. ;)

I don't know what I would do, but I don't want to start over.

For you, it would depend on what marketable job skills you have and how old you are.

If you are young, have you considered college?

Also, what do you enjoy doing. You may have the skill to be an accountant, but maybe you would hate every day of your life if that was your career.

I'd sell it all and go to Ft. Myers Beach, FL where I'd rent a little shack on the beach and walk to my bartender / waiter job at one of the local spots. No car, no real bills, no nothing but food, drinks, beachside views and plenty of women.

Depends on your age. If you are waiting for a SS check, it's a little late.

But... If you are young and strong - railroads are hiring. Good pay, good medical, and retirement outside of the SS system. RR work can't be outsourced to India.

Don't start feeling sorry for yourself - when you're at the bottom, everything is UP! :wavey:

^^^^^^I second the military vote. I have done quite a bit but was never in the military and that is one of my regrets.

I'd be a plastic surgeon with offices in Beverly Hills, Honolulu, Tokyo, Rome, and Miami.

I have often thought about Alaska, if for no other reason than to get away from people and the humidity.

As far as career, I am flexible.
