I just finished watching Starship Troopers on streaming video from Netflix to my blu-ray player.

I don't know why I like that movie so much. I suppose it's one of my guilty pleasures.

I like it too, even though most people hate it. I never read the book, so there were no expectations going in. It's just a good shoot 'em up. I thought it was funny, too.

I had a roommate that had a dvd of ST 2. ST 2 is a reallll bad movie, no words can describe it. I just switched out his ST 2 disc with an extra copy of the first movie and never told him. (I threw away ST 2)
When he found out, he thanked me and said this was the best thing that has happened to him all week.

me too I actually thought it quite humorous :) and as was said liked the shoot em up aspect. Book was better as they almost always are but the movie was fine.

I haven't seen the sequels. Don't plan to. I can imagine how bad they'd be.

I don't get it either but it's one of my all time favorites. I find it funny that theres a thread about it, I guess I'm not the only one! I just like the story line and characters. I guess deep down inside every man would love to "join the cause" and see the world (or in this case, the universe) and fight the good fight against the bad guy, or bad bug. Its got cute girls, guns, stuff blowing up, the perfect formula for a good movie. And I love the commercials and cut-away scenes within the movie; my favorite has to be the news reel showing the smart bug getting probed at the end. Classic....SST FTW!

I thought it was hilarious when the mom was clapping and cheering because her kids were stomping bugs on the sidewalk. Obviously intended to be over-the-top funny, and it was.

The movie sucks, made just to capitalize on the action movie genre.

But the book, and the message it intends to deliver are absolutely first rate. It is actually what's called a "juvenile book" and meant for youngsters. Written in 1959 by probably the best science fiction writer in history, Robert A. Heinlein, it definitely has an anti war theme. It was to show folks just how foolish some people could be, especially when listening to the govts gung ho "kill 'em all....they're less than us" propaganda. Though he (the author) was as pro American as they come. He went to the Naval Academy if memory serves. Suppose it took a military man to see the point as well as he did.

Do yourself a favor, read the book. And the rest of his works.

Hmm...I wonder why you like it? Could it be the White She Devil (reference from one of my favorite movies)?
