Yes, the "Staffordshire bull terrier" and the "American Staffordshire terrier" are completely different breeds! People pretty much refer to them all as "pit bulls".

    Try http://www.petfinder.com/

You might be able to call shelters and ask for "the little pit bulls". Those'll be bound to be Staffie bulls, but probably mixes... I've seen a few mixes (and fostered one), but I can't recall seeing any purebreds.

    Here's the little brat I had :)

Over here in Germany the American Stafford is more or less banned and regarded as a 'fighting dog' (total nonsense of course) the smaller British version is allowed. We had an American Stafford that died in April this year a know a few British Staffords.
In my opinion they are quite similar in their character, the smaller version is however a bit more playful and doesn't like to fight with other dogs as much as the American Stafford. In my eyes both are among the finest dogs ever bred.

I have an Amstaff that is one of the most good natured dogs i've ever seen...with people. she's not so great with strange dogs that "start stuff."

There are many reputable "staffie bull" breeders here in the US...check google or the classified section of dogfancy or other dog mags.
    cheers,
    Derek
