Spybot search and destroy is restarting my computer

    Why would Spybot be restarting my computer mid way through a scan?

    Everything goes dead and then it comes back up like everything is normal. Done it twice in a row.

    Any ideas?

    I'm running XP Media Center.

    I would disable anti-vir, and all programs running in the background, un-install/re-install, followed by a re-boot. I'd try that first.

    Good call, Bronson.

    BTW, Spybot can be run in Safe Mode (F8 on bootup). This can reveal nasties than a normal scan misses.

    It isn't unheard of for SB to croak; a rip and reinstall cures this unless the malware is installed and running before SB is installed.


    Make sure you update SB 1.4 before you run the first scan.
