If I wish to spot .223 caliber holes in targets at 300 yards, what magnification Nikon Prostaff spotting scope would I need? Would 48x be enough, or would 60x be required?

Is your vision 20/20? higher magnification means the littlest vibration can make the scope picture seem like it is moving around a whole lot. Also the higher the magnification the more eye fatigue yo will experience and the more light gets collected and forced into your eye. Always go with the lowest Mag power you need to acomplish the mission.

Yes it is. I wear glasses for a little help on my non-dominant eye.

    I would go with 48X.
