So my wife and I are on our way back from the mall area after having dinner tonight.......I'm doing the standard 70 MPH on the interstate, when this dumbass comes careening up behind me at Mach-Oh-My-God. He slows down really quickly, and just stays behind me for a second, then it sounded like he downshifted, and zoomed past me. Mind you, I was doing 70, and he passes me like I'm not even moving. He was probably going around 120, and he disappears in the distance.

Well, a few miles ahead, what do I see? Mr Speed Racer, on the side of the road, pulled over by a good ol' TN State Trooper. I laughed to myself as I drove by doing my standard 70 MPH. Probably some Private who just got himself a brand new car; looks like his insurance is gonna skyrocket.....hell, that's IF he didn't go to jail. :whistling:

I'd hate to be in his shoes; can you imagine the call to his First Sergeant, telling him he's in jail? I'm pretty sure you go to jail in TN for doing more than 30 over the limit; or is it higher?

Thankfully we catch some of them. All to often we have to clean up the results and knock on someone's door to let them know a loved one will not be coming home.

I was in the right-most lane, and he passed on the left. :dunno: No reason to be going triple digit speeds though. :steamed: People like that are why my insurance is so high, but its the price ya pay, I suppose. :faint:

I'll also add that accidents involving triple digit speeds are certainly not rare around here. Some idiot gets a wild hair up their butt, and decides to shift to light speed. I remember when I first got back from my last deployment, a guy was going 144 MPH in a Subaru STI, lost control and literally cut his car in half by hitting a tree. He was racing down I-24, and lost control. The guy actually SURVIVED, but his passenger was dead. I have little sympathy for someone who makes such an irresponsible decision to do something like he did. Take that **** to a track! Clarksville Speedway is literally 20 minutes away, and its only about $20 for 3 runs down the dragstrip.

In NC, 30+ over can cause you to go to jail and loose your license, as well as move into reckless and dangerous territory.
It is just stupid to do on open and occupied roads.

On the other hand, 120 really isn't that dangerous or difficult in some of the cars that are on the road today.

I would like to see some kind of graduated speed limit based on the vehicle. Just as we have a lower speed limit for semis, there should be a higher speed limit for cars capable of it. Maybe a differently colored tag? HH
