I ran across a neat little freeware file that speeds up Adobe Reader 6.0 loading.

    It's at
    http://www.find.pcworld.com/43640

If you use Adobe Reader 6.0, you know how long it takes to come up.

It also works with the full retail boxed version of Adobe 6.0 (which I use), but it eliminates my ability to scan from within Adobe. There may be other limitations, too.

But it seems to work well, and it's also easy to restore your original settings if you find a need. Just re-run the executable file and select "restore settings".

Most of the start up time is waiting for it to load the plug-ins much like with Adobe Photoshop.

I don't know how that little utility works but you can probably do the same thing by simply moving all of the files&folders within the 'plug_ins' directory of the Acrobat 6.0\Reader directory. The safest way to do this would be to not delete them but move them to another folder in case you need one back.
