I found this one not long ago. I honestly don't believe it had been fired, there was still cosmoline oozing out of ever pore and crevice. I was just disapointed they didn't have the box and papers.

It's a Charter Arms Undercover, with a 3" barrel (I have no idea at all how common these are, I just know I've never seen one.). It was made in Bridgeport, Conn, which was the original factory, probably about 1966 according to the five digit S/N. Although the pictures don't show it well, and I didn't know it until someone told me, the early guns had a "Charter Oak" in the grip medallion, the later ones had a "Charter scroll." This one has the oak.

All that means nothing. There isn't and probably never will be a collectors market for Charter Arms revolvers. Still, I thought it was a neat little gun, and I got it for a good price. I already took it to the range and shot it a few times. Shoots about like my other C/A revolver.

I hadn't even wiped the cosmoline off when I took the pictures. The gun looks much better now that I have cleaned it.

Looks very nice. A bit better shape than the 1967 Undecover I just picked up, but that's what I was looking for.....a snub .38 spl that already had some holster wear/character.

Hard to find a decent .38 these days for under 3 bills that doesn't look like it's been left in a tool box for the last decade.

I picked up an old Bulldog .44 at a gun show in 1996, used it as a car gun and now an office gun....works just fine.

I thought the same, EXACT thing when I bought my 2" Ruger Security Six years ago... Now? It's just about tripled in value from what I paid for it ($150 OTD back in '99).

Looks like you've got a quality little revolver there. Hang on to it, shoot it, love it for a while... and, who knows? Maybe it'll be worth more than sentimentality later on? ;)

Yes, but that's not "collectors value" really. That's inflation and high demand/low supply driving the price up. This Charter probably sold for three times what it cost new in 1966 also.

When I say "collectors value" I mean nobody is going to care if I shoot it or not. A few scratches, a little wear aren't going to hurt it much.
