Shooting my glock G19 today I noticed very pronounced sparks coming out of my barrel while firing the pistol. I was shooting Remington 115gr JHP ammo. Anyone else run into this? I've seen flames before with other pistols and ammo but never sparks.

I've only seen extensive sparks when shooting dirty ammo like Tul. I figured it was because the powder is not being burned all the way and shoots out the barrel while still igniting.:dunno:

Yea it happens sometimes... I wouldn't worry about it.. Try some different ammo and see if it continues to spark..

Wasn't dark out. and it only seems to happen with JHP ammo. Also this gun is still fairly new (less than 200 round though the pipe), thought maybe that had something to do with it.

The only ammo I have ever had do this was Remington UMC .45. It is the ammo I would say.

Some brands burn cleaner than others. Some brands are lower flash than others. Generally, you get what you pay for.

Sparks aren't uncommon. I must say I use Tul Ammo a lot. Sparks are far mor noticeable with that.

Steel jacketed ammo will make those sparks.

Certain powders are worse than others.

Thanks for all the good feedback guys. I did shoot some american eagle fmj and no sparks. I cleaned and inspected the barrel. No damage or unusual wear.

I see the sparks quite a bit when I shoot the 9mm Blazer ammo but don't recall seeing it with the UMC or WWB. :dunno:

Totally normal. Just powder and what not. Will not hurt anything at all. You're good. :supergrin:
