I can't believe there's not already a thread on these at least that I can see.

    Whose buying?

    Does anyone already have one?

Does anyone know anyone selling them for MSRP instead of jacking the price up?

Lol none at this moment but I would love to know I'd give up my scar 16 plus some money for one at MSRP

Spoke with HK today. They said that the dealers are robbing people blind on GB. They will ship more by years end and production will be ramped up further after that.

No lie about the prices on GB, I’ll
Just wait til readily available or get my name on a list. It’ll be a nice addition to the SP5K and the Zenith Z5rs I have.

I’d rather have the real deal. But I think it’s a good investment.

Meanwhile, the investment in my SP89 is falling out the bottom......

Are prices really dropping on them. I’d think to an HK purist they’d hold their value.

Not sure about the value, but they were born as an "almost MP5"...so new units coming on the market has most likely taken the shine off it a bit.

I’d hold onto it. Remember a lot of the SP 89’s were converted into K’s either in f/a or just made into SBR’s. As I see it you have a rare gem.

In time, more new HK collectors will come about, they’ll want an original gun eventually.

Another thing to consider, when I SBR’d my SP5K, I had to swap out 6 parts w US made parts for 922r. The SP89 in SBR form gets to stay all German. Food for thought.

They started dropping with the SP5K. In fact the SP89 is, of course, supposed to be a semi K gun not a semi MP5 (that's the 94).

Not at all a surprise that the price for both have dropped w/the SP5K and the SP5 - esp the latter. The HUGE difference between the SP5 and ALL of the others is the paddle mag release. The SP5 is far closer to an MP5 than is a 94 and, unlike the 94, SP89 and the SP5K it has a paddle - not to mention being the only actual HK gun ever sold to civilians w/a paddle or a PDW barrel.

That said, other than for use as a sear host or an SBR the SP5K and the SP5 have, I think, very little practical use. They are just very cool looking guns that offer a chance to get close to the factory originals.

Nonetheless, I think that the 94 and the SP89 will always be worth far above MSRP - it will just take a good while before they see the tremendous prices that they commanded prior to the SP5K and SP5.

As to value, by far, the biggest threat to all of this stuff is legislative. Strictly from a $ standpoint, a national ban with a grandfather clause would lead to massive increases in value just like happened to the pre-ban seims in 89 and 94. However, the more states that ban them like VA wants to (grandfather clause but not more allowed in state after the effective date of the law) the smaller the market.

I also think that mag bans can hurt all this stuff and CIII.

No investment is a sure bet - that most certainly includes these.

People on Gunbroker are bidding them up to over $3200-3300. One guy even listed one at $3600.

I tried to get one but I'm not paying over msrp. A local shop got some in but they were charging $3600. I bought a nighthawk 1911 instead. I'll grab an sp5 when the dust settles.

I have 2, one I shoot and the other still in the box. Price took a drop this year on both new and used. H&K is trying to keep up with the demand. But hard to say this being a hard core H&K hardcore fan, but Zenith at one time was making a better product H&K. With all the crap going on in Turkey they still was pumping out MP5 which by the way sold out in 4 days. Glad my 91 is going back up in price and like always the 93 holding in there.

Don’t have any interest myself, but I will say I’m glad to finally see something cool coming to the market instead of more ARs, 1911s and pocket-rockets.
