I have a good story to share.
A week ago I was assigned to intake/receiving and a blind black male in his mid 30s came in with a theft over $500 warrant (theft over $500 is a felony in MD) through another county. We serve the warrant and I escort him to the district court commissioner's office for his initial appearance (the District court commissioner is similar to a magistrate in other states). He gets release on personal recognizance, and I sit him at a desk while my lieutenant checks his paperwork making sure everything is good for him to be released from the facility.
As my lt. is doing that, I'm going through his property making sure everything he came in with is accounted for, and that he didn't have any contraband hidden that another officer may have missed. All of this is in a clear plastic Rubbermaid container. While searching his property, I located a steel tube approximately 3 1/2 inches in length, 1/2 of an inch wide, with a metal screw top "made in china" on the bottom. Thinking that narcotics could possibly be inside, I unscrew the tube and this grayish white substance pours out all inside the clear container, all over the mans property Upon closer inspection, it appears to be some sort of ash like substance...
I turn to my lt., and say "Sir, is this, really what I think it is?" my lt. "Most likely..."
I approach the sitting blind man, set the rubbermaid container next to him and I start handing him his property one item at a time, discreetly wiping off the ash, telling him what each item was. After the blind man takes possession of his property, I ask him "Hey man, whats in the tube?" He replies "My father"
.... :embarassed:
Later, due to the large amount of ash still in the container, I had to dump in it in the intake trash can :embarassed:
His father got released the same time he did
