I mounted my iPod on the L side of the forearm. Bullet Flight app FTW.

I have no need for lights, beam lasers or designators, and it doesn't sound like you do either.

I recommend starting out slow. Add one thing, work with the gun for a while, get used to using the AR15. Then add something else if you feel you are really missing out on something.

I keep most of my AR15's in basic configurations. I only have a couple really tricked out AR15's.

I don't even have a need for an ar, but I WANT one!

I was kidding about mounting my iphone, but out of curiosity.. how did you do it?? I could actually use the video camera function of the iphone, especially when shooting tannerite!!! :embarassed:
I suggest adding absolutely every cool gadget you want to your M4gery. It's your damn rifle, so do with it as you please. Some like KISS rifles, some like Minimal Efficiency rifles, and some want SOPMOD clones.

To each their own.

Love the simplicity of those ar examples... You gave good advice, I'm not sure that I have the willpower to follow it. I've wanted an ar for so long, now that I'm getting one, I have no patience. Like a 40 year old virgin about to score...

Let's list the possibilities...others will add what I have missed.

Eotech/Aimpoint/ACOG/scope.
VFG (you need a VFG to hold the pressure pad for your light)
Weapon light.
Laser.
Sling.
Double P-mags.

What did I miss?

I had to search "sopmod".

Very cool!
Add what you want and then go to the range. Then you'll see how heavy the damn thing is. Especially after you take a training class with it. You'll find the stuff you need on it, not the stuff you want.

Why would you need any of those things?
Why would you need any of those things?
Who said anything about "need"?

Who the hell "needs" an AR anyway? :dunno:

I carry a gun for work everyday and I don't "need" an AR... they are friggin fun though!

To the OP, sounds like you have the proper attitude for the gun, enjoy.

This is one of those topics.....if it has to be explained to you, then it's not for you, you're not interested.

Oh....and my answer is, why not?

Of course the "why?" for the VFG is described already....don't know how ya missed that.

I know, right?

I laugh my butt off when people try to rationalize owning one. There's really no need to rationalize owning one, ya do it because you can and you want to.

Those are my "tricked out" AR15's.

Generally speaking, I don't think anyone needs more than something like this.

EXACTLY!!!

Guns are fun, if you feel you have to justify owning one, then you are falling into the trap of those that wish to take them away.

If you want one, buy it! If you want to stick pointless crap on it, go ahead. Others will make fun of you for it (hell I make fun of people for sticking pointless crap on their guns), but who the hell cares what others think?

I really get a kick out of those that tell you what you "need" or better yet "don't need"...

True dat!!

The current AR flavor of the month is the KISS AR. Those that espouse KISS ARs rationalize it by talking about weight. I swear too many people live in fantasy worlds where the modern world collapses and they walk lone dusty roads living off the land with their trusty light-weight ARs. And I'd bet most such people are far too old and far too out of shape to live the fantasy they imagine.

Sweet now you can watch porn while shooting zombies, nothing can top that.

Ahh, you've been to the S&P forum too I see...

I have absolutely no problem with someone getting a rifle "for self-defense" or even for SHTF, but some of the fantasies that people are talking about are far beyond prepping and legitimate self defense issues, but then again, to each his own...

Sorry to hijack this thread...
