I watched a newer show on FOX last night "The New Revolution" w/Steve Hilton. Not bad. He had a panel of 3 discussing healthcare and one was a Latina woman from (I forget the state) former local congressperson. She thought single-payer was just the best since sliced bread. All I could think of was if it was so good and she was so committed to it - why not go back to Mexico (take all your family, too...) and try to get SP going there. Leave us alone.
Did any of you catch Jesse Watters interviewing the millenials, asking for their definition of "socialism?" None of them could even come up with a complete sentence, but "THEY LOVE IT!" This country's future is so ****ed!
quote from my grandfather: "NEVER LET THE DOCTORS OR THE LAWYERS GET THEIR HANDS ON YOU. ONE WILL KILL YOU, THE OTHER MAKE IT LEGAL." anything the government has total control of becomes a boondoggle, a nightmare. that entity WILL be corrupt, and used for personal/political gain and leverage.
that's all part of the plan. bring over democrats. funny thing is half of the Mexicans are otherwise religious Conservatives Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
Common sense tells you that if private insurance could do the job, there never would have been the demand for Medicare or Obamacare. Private insurance companies have to make a profit. Government doesn't. Neither does government have to pay a big marketing staff. With government programs, you the voter have a say. With private insurance companies it's the usual take it or leave it. With private companies it's just a choice of how you get scalped. With government, everybody is keeping an eye out for efficiencies and waste. With private insurance companies, they're always looking for ways to dump people - That's their idea of efficiency. You don't see Europeans voting out their socialist health care plans so they can be more like Americans. That's because they are getting health care that costs half as much as we pay and everybody gets it. Sure they may have to stand in line, but at least there's a line to stand in. And of course the rich can still bypass the lines and go to private facilities. If the Europeans want to pay more and get more, they can do that. Even in impoverished Cuba, people live about as long as we do and the government trains so many doctors that they export them instead of bringing them in from abroad like we have to. Cuba charitably offered to help with health care after the Katrina tragedy, but our President didn't want that kind of embarrassment on top of what he already had. If you want a strong America, you've got to have strong Americans.
guss, its guss sense not common sense. the demand is for free healthcare. It just couldn't be met guss. obama had to do something!
Everybody deciding this issue is avoiding saying what the real intent of Obamacare was. It was to give free or very inexpensive health care, to those voters that couldn't or wouldn't work, at the expense of those who did work and purchased their own insurance already. You cannot make health insurance cheaper when you are requiring those that pay for coverage, to pay for more people that do not. In this exercise, costs for the payer must increase. It's BS to claim otherwise. This is pandering to the liberal base by claiming that healthcare is NOW, a right. It is not, and never has been. Accommodating the legitimately poor can be managed. Gifting them something cannot.
Gee, socialized medicine? We were on a vacation in Banff, BC a few years ago and every day the local newspaper had horror stories about Canadian medicine gone bad. It's probably great for sore throats and minor colds but your wife has aggressive ovarian cancer? Good luck, months before an operating date. Why do Canadians fly down here and pay out of pocket for OUR care? All I've ever read about Scandanvian care is it's just a big, bloated and inefficent bureaucracy, nothing good to be heard about it. The Obozo Dolt screwed with the best system on earth and gave us Cr**care. And yes as janice6 said, Doltcare was never about improving health care it was just another means of buying votes from the very people who generally contribute little or nothing to the system. Just as zero enforcement and amnesty for illegals is not about being kind, it is again, buying votes. Don
Here's a decent article comparing Healthcare in the US vs "socialist" Healthcare. http://www.commonwealthfund.org/interwactives/2017/july/mirror-mirror/
Let me ask you this: Do you REALLY want the government that promised to pay us Social Security until the day you die to also determine the day you die? Especially since it is bankrupt?
In government, everybody is keeping an eye out for inefficiencies and waste? Get serious. There isn't a single person in all of government that is paid to try and make any government run system more efficiently. Why should they? The taxpayer pays all the bills. There are no competitors to drive them out of business. Look at Medicare. I've heard estimates as high as 50% of Medicare payouts are to fraudulent claims. Who in government cares? No one. But don't worry. The gutless Republicans will cave on Medicaid expansion and will see that it gets funded, regardless of the fact it will drive up deficits. More and more will go onto Medicaid and the income thresholds lowered as health insurance premiums continue to go up. Not a damn thing will be done to address higher healthcare costs. The government will just keep paying, and eventually we get to where the Democrats wanted all along: Single-payer healthcare. As providers get squeezed and the system breaks down, quality of care will plummet and more will die as they wait months to get an MRI or other test. But the Democrats don't have to worry because the left wing media will be bombarding us with stories of someone who didn't have healthcare before now has coverage. Pictures of children and poor people seeing the doctor. And stories of longer waits for the doctor and deteriorating health outcomes will be buried. Can't ruin the progressive dream of government run healthcare.
I can not even begin to comment on Guss' post. Perhaps it is only sarcasm. No one can really be that naive and uninformed.
The existing private insurance system is on the way out. There's no way a free market will bring the prices down because we individuals have no negotiating power. It takes something big like government to bring prices down.
Other governments of the world keep costs down. Why do you have such low confidence in our government?
