I was out of town from Christmas until New Years. My roommate had been out of town for a few days during Christmas, but had come back before New Years. He went down to the gulf coast of MS to celebrate New Years with some fraternity brothers that live down there.

I get a phone call from him at around 9:30 PM New Year's Day telling me that our TVs, Game systems, games, around 200 or so rounds of 9mm ammo, my gun cleaning kit, some luggage, his laptop, etc were gone.

The backdoor handle had been popped off and kicked in.

Obviously he gets the cops to come out and filled a report.

The thing is, only one person, an upstairs neighbor is literally the only one who knew we would both be gone on New Years. This guy is a pill addict who has had two pervious DUIs. We had occasionally hung out with him to watch football games, etc before it became more obvious in recent months that his addiction was getting out of hand..

So we both instantly assumed it was him.

Today his worthless *** gets pulled over for his 3rd DUI (automatic 6 months in jail) with some of our stuff in the car as well. (Not his car BTW as he had wrecked his new car within weeks.)

So it looks like he is going to be spending a good chunk of his 20s in the State Pen, plus having to deal with being a convicted felon.

The guy whose car he was arrested in is coming over tomorrow to give us all our stuff that was in his car back, plus taking us to some possible pawn places where he thinks he might have gone.

Moral of the story, write down the serial numbers of your electronics and don't do the crime if you ain't willing to do the time.

Sometimes karma works out well in life!

He is lucky that I was not here as I probably would have shot someone kicking in my door in the middle of the night.

I hope you can eventually get everything back. Sucks to hear your place got broken into it, but at least they caught the guy, and hopefully you have renter's insurance to replace whatever isn't recovered.

There are two types of people in the world.......those of us who support ourselves(working, retired, etc) and those who need a bullet put in their stealing , thieving faces!! Glad you got some of your stuff back, hopefully you will find it all!!!

I sure am sorry for your trouble. I hope that d-bag gets a good sentence.

I also hope his parents are as sickened by his actions and do not try and make excuses for him.

Solid piece of advice I got from my insurance agent:

Use a video camera to walk around your house and narrate anything you might need to document, including purchase dates, model numbers, etc. Zoom in on Serial numbers, or other identifiable markings on your belongings. Make a copy, and keep it off site incase of a total loss.

Glad to hear they caught the guy, and you are getting some/most/all of your stuff back. Count yourself lucky, most never see their property again.

Just got some of the stuff back, only one of the gaming systems, my luggage, and a few other things.

We talked to his dad and informed him that unless he wanted his son to be charged with multiple felonies he could reimburse us for all of the stuff still not found. He said he would get back to us.

About to go to some pawn shops where he could have gone in order to see if we can locate our TVs and some other stuff.

Good Luck. I hate thieves but I do feel sorry for addicts sometimes. It's a real waste of a person. Dude wanted his next high and had an easy mark. It's terrible. I do have some understanding for addiction. Maybe with enough time in prison he will get clean of drugs.

Yea, but when your parents enable you by paying your rent, getting you out of trouble etc, its what happens.

Bail him out and have a 'Wall to Wall Counseling' session with him.
