Just caught this fellow hiding under the DVD rack in my living room. Cat noticed him and objected. Looks like a black rat snake, about 4 feet long, if not a little more. They get up to 6 feet. Last year I saw one go straight up the side of a large oak tree until I lost track of him up among the branches.

My wife is afraid of snake, so it was pretty exciting for her. Caught him in a box and set him out across the street.

Foot is closer to the camera, so I didn't do a good job of showing scale. The side of the box he is climbing in the first picture is exactly 6 inches wide.

Those are good snakes. Good job of catch and release. Still, I would have needed a shower and new pants.

Then you'd have really hated the last one I caught in the house. I had a music book laying face down and open in the basement and I picked it up to put it back on the shelf, but I grabbed the book and the 2 foot+ garter snake that was under it at the same time. That made me yell a little. Also caught and released him.

This little ***** came prancing through the house one day carrying a wiggly, red, yellow and black banded snek in her mouth. I'm trying to remember the dam rhyme yelling at her to " leave it ". Luckily , it was the King variety and not the Coral variety.

Her last encounter with a pygmy rattler cost me a couple of vials of anti-venom.

Well! Me, could not catch one of them there things! No Sir. My Wife is terrified of even a picture of one, can not see one on TV either.
I think we will have to move to Ireland. Going to Lake Como. Italy, and Dublin this month. Looking forward to that. Not looking forward to leaving my G19 behind though.

If it were in my house I would have spent the next hour patching up bullet holes.

No, no, no!!!!!!! Although between the dogs and the cats most likely they would catch it for me. If I found that in my house you would have to peel me off the ceiling.

Good on you for the catch and release. I've never understood the irrational fear of non venomous snakes (sneks) and spiders.

Me either. When I was little we used to catch snakes and carry them around and no man or boy was afraid of a snake. I was probably a teenager before I met males who were afraid of snakes, so it never really occurred to me.

That's what we did as kids. One day my bro and I caught a huge garter snake and brought him to show Mom in the hopes of scaring her. She took it from us and put it back outside.

I've caught a few harmless snakes in he garage, but never in the house.

My wife is so scared of spiders and snakes that we have sticky traps in the garage and at doorways. Finding one in the house, like your 4' visitor, would cause major stress if I couldn't remove it without her finding out.

If a harmless one can get in, so can a venomous one. My son caught a small coral snake in a sticky trap in his Florida garage.
