Just bought a 12-2 Airweight for $50 with tax included so about 45$ before. It has a crack below the barrel and the barrel is turned just a tad. Everything else is tight and seems to function well. It was $150 before I pointed out the crack.
Is this a pretty good deal? I have never had a smith and never had a 38 snubby and I wanted a project so I took the risk.
Is there a fix for this crack? Is it safe to shoot non +P rounds with the crack? I hear this is a pretty common problem with these guns so I bet thousands of rounds have been shot through cracked ones. I know very little about these guns though.

Don't shoot it. Sounds like the frame is cracked. If so you just bought a parts gun. If just the barrel is cracked you may be able to get that replaced.

Send it in to S&W as soon as possible.

I wouldn't shoot it either. I would take it to a gunsmith and see what he/she recommends.
