Pretty much everyone I associate with has an iPhone, most of them current or near current models.

So the other day my kid asks if this other kid's mom could bring her over to play.

I say sure! Love having kids over to play.

When the mom shows up at the front door she's holding some droid something or other phone.

I met her before. Know her husband too. They seemed like good people, smart, successful, good morals. But now I'm not so sure.

I immediately check the sex offender database. Negative.

Then I did one of those $25 online background checks. Negative.

Thinking I may pull their credit report. Something just isn't right.

So the kid is asking if their kid can come over again but I'm uncomfortable with it. I'm not sure I want my kid associating with those types of families. God only knows what they do behind closed doors or what family skeletons they have.

What do you guys think? Am I being appropriately cautious?

I had to read this twice, and I still don't get what's bothering you...

You're worried because she has a "Droid something or other"? People's choices in phones make you do sex offender checks? Is there more to this story? :dunno:

I'd comment, but since I'm posting from a galaxy s 3, my comment might be auto deleted, it if it passes, just ignored.

Oh, ok. IPhone vs. Droid. We still have regular non-smart phones, so this admittedly went over me.

Since I'm still using a bag phone with a coil-cord handset...I still don't get it. HH

    F Apple....

can't wait until phones are implanted (sooner than you think). I'll be the crazy old guy who still makes calls through his computer. But really, your phone will just be inside your body in a micro chip. Not me.....

Really, I wouldn't carry a phone anywhere if the women didn't think it is now essential. I wonder how people survived ten years ago.

To complement our non-smart cellphones, we just set up a land line with a rotary phone that my parents had. Damn thing still works!

If you're thinking about starting a family its the smart thing to do. I know I'm not the only parent who watches for that.

Also, I was talking to a banker the other day who said they run a special risk analysis on potential customers who display those droid phones. Usually ends up with a .25 to .5 point interest rate premium.

Well clearly you did a sex offender check....being so used to having to do that for any iphone person that comes around....everyone knows iphone user = pedo! Apple actually just patented the iPedo device to lure in kids who are not fooled by free candy anymore. Can't blame you for not realizing that people with real smartphones (Androids) don't need to commit sex offenses because they are too busy being productive members of society.

ahhh, makes me proud to be a Nexus owner who has unlocked and flashed many ROM's. Looks like that disqualifies me from being a member of CF's family. Aww shucks.

I'd say the mother is smarter than the average bear for being able to use a home, back, AND menu key :whistling:

If this was before yesterday, maybe she just likes a 4g phone? Maybe she likes free apps. Maybe she likes a large screen. Maybe she likes a removable battery. Maybe she likes upgrading memory. Maybe she likes gorilla glass, not breakable glass. Maybe she likes dual processors. Maybe she likes to know how fast her processors are.

I have an HTC, my wife has a Droid x2, and my kids has Samsungs. We are working to transition to iPhones. In parallel, we are moving out of the trailer park. Until we complete these transitions, I cannot comment.

There are other ways to determine moral superiority besides someone having an iPhone, or (cue music of great reverence) a MacBook. Here's one:

You should have sex with the suspect wife. If she lets you give her a Boston Cream Pie, you will know that she's morally bankrupt, and you should not allow her around your children.
