This is my third Glock, a 23, and I've never had this happen.
Went to the range this afternoon and after about
50 rnds down range, the slide started locking open every round.
I pulled the slide and the mg catch wants to stay up and there is wear on the top of it that looked
    real fresh.
I had the LW barrel in it shooting reloads as
    usual (LFP)
I'm wondering if the fouling from the powder is somehow built up and
    causing the problem?
The slide catch is an extended one and it happened with
both mags w or w/o rnds in them or no mag at all.
    Thanks for any help folks.

    Will do.
I was thinking that but can't figure out how it happened.
It ran fine last time out.
I'll put the original back in.
    Thxs.

If the extended slide is not damaged it will be ok to re-install. No need to go back to the original unless you are not satified with the extended version

Kinda scratchin my head about now...
I looked over the slide catch ans spring in the weapon, and the spring was kinda slid towards the center of the pin.
I pushed it back over, assembled and had the same problem.

I pushed out the pin, pulled the extended catch and compared it to the stock item and they look the same.
Re-installed the catch, assembled the tried it out and it seemed to work fine.

I then had to kill time while waiting to pick up items in town for DW, so I went to the range and ran about six mags thru her with no problems!

All is right in the world now....cept I test drove a SIG P229...that's another story.
