I bought a G27 few weeks ago, and this is my first sub-compact Glock. I have installed extended slide releases on all my other Glocks, but at the range the other day it kept catching. I put the release in correct(attached photo), spring under the top pin. Is my thumb the problem, should I get rid of the extended release for the baby Glock?

I used to have the opposite of this problem when shooting sigs. I would use the grip I always use with my glock and the sig's slide would never lock back until I was told to cross my thumbs so it would be out of the way. maybe it's your thumb thats the problem and i would work on it at the range one more time

Thats all I can think of, going to range tomorrow. Going to try shooting left handed, and see if that works. Always shot with thumbs facing target, never had problem before. But, with this smaller frame might have to trying thumbs down.

To test your slide release push it up. Let it go and it should snap back down.

It looks as if you have it installed correctly so, I would have to say you're hitting it with the thumb.

Problem solved! It wasn't installed wrong or my thumb hitting it. The problem was the spring was over bent, instead of pointing at a 45 degree angle, it was bent almost into a C shape. There wasn't enough pressure on it, so when shooting, it would raise up on its own. Lesson learned, when changing anything on your EDC, take it to the range and test it. Even if it is something as easy as slide release lock.
