You got an SKS? Post your pics!

By the way... where did all the SKS's go anyway? I used to see them selling everywhere, and now... gone. Sure you see them in some local gun shops selling for outrageous prices. But everyone else seems to be totally out. Samco only has cracked stocks. Aim has nothing. JG, Buds... nothing. Have all the surplus dumps dried up?

It's so strange that right now you can get a Saiga 7.62x39 for about $350 at ClassicArms, and yet wasn't Impact selling unissued Yugo SKS's for about $500?

I don't have a pic, but here's my funny story of how my SKS came into my life:

A buddy of mine that's an avid shooter said that he had a couple of rifles that he doesn't shoot anymore and he'd like to sell them. I was in the market for a 7.62x39 surplus rifle and he said he had one. I was hoping against hope that he'd say AK, but he said SKS. I said that I'd take a look at it and see if I liked it. Well, the next day he shows up and we're out in the parking lot of a very non-combat arms related army post on the east coast (think near the DC area). We're sitting in his truck and I'm kinda fiddling around with it. I like it so we settle on the price. He gets paid and I start to step out of the truck to put it back in the case and take it to my car. My buddy says, "you only bought the gun, not the case." and says that he still needs the case, etc. SO I say OK and close the back door to his truck, thinking he'll at least give me a ride over to MY caar where I can put it in the trunk and try and just cover it up, but as soon as I shut the door he takes off.

So, now here I stand in the middle of a big parking lot, people starting to come out of the building wondering what's going on with my buddy's squealing tires, and I'm left standing there in the middle of the parking lot holding an 'assault rifle'......

not good for the home team.

(exciting conclusion) I casually as I could ripped off my name tape and walked off towards my car. People kinda gave me funny looks, and the commandant stopped me when i was almost at my car. She asked what I was doing, and I told her, "I'm sorry ma'am, I just bought the rifle, and I was trying to be discreet, but I got left here in the middle of the parking lot...." She cut me off and simply said, "No, I was talking about where your name tape went. Fix yourself." AND JUST WALKED AWAY..

My butt stopped puckering, I think I actually farted, and I just drove home.

    SKS from 1951: $125
Case for the SKS: $50 (didn't buy it)
Not getting crushed by a bird colonel when I should have: priceless.

I've got a Yugo. I got it back when I first got my C&R and ordered two of them from Classic Arms. I fired about 60 rounds through one of them. Never fired the other one.

They both look just like that.

I'd love to know where they went as well. If I could find a crate of them at a decent price I'd hop all over it!!

I bought a Norinco about 5 years ago. I paid $150 or $175 for it in excellent-LNIB condition.

Two years later I snagged a NIB Yugo from classic or somewhere else for $235. It's still NIB. I'm just holding on to it.

I'd love to be able to say we should see a huge supply of them popping up in the future but I highly doubt that will happen.

I bought two excellent yugo's when they were 179 bucks. I wish I wouldn't have cleaned the cosmoline off of them because I still haven't shot them. I also have a norinco and haven't shot it in a year.

ROSE'S Dpt. store used to sell em' for $99 all day long. Now I have not seen one for less than $300. Did they stop importing these things or what? If I'm going to spend over $300 on a SKS I'll just spend a few bucks more and get a AK.

    Agreed.

Unless you're a collector, then you have to opt for the SKS. Luckily I bought my Russian Tula years ago for $159 at a gun show:supergrin:. They sell for UPWARDS of $400 now....MORE if it's in great condition with matching numbers (like mine, of course).

A Romanian WASR-10 AK can be had for around $350 - $425 now while the Yugo SKS' still sell for around $400, which just makes it a no-brainer when deciding between the AK and the SKS.

As a collector though I would forego the AK to obtain a really nice Albanian and/or Romanian SKS!!!!:wow: I have enough AKs anyhow.

    Supply and demand economics.

Like all surplus firearms, eventually the supply dries up.
Also, factor is the fact that no one is making them anymore and demand for them has not slacked off.
That's the reason why prices on the SKS have gone up 2-5 times what they were 20 years ago.
I remember buying a Russian SKS back in the mid-90s for $100 and now they sell in the $450-500 range.
