For the second night in a row I am sitting in the Emergency Room parking lot.

For those you you know it alls that say we making the appropriate response to CoVid-19, you are WRONG. For those of you that say this not having a significantly negative impact on normal healthcare. That if you need to be treated for a medical condition you can be, you are WRONG. I sitting in the parking lot waiting to pick up someone from the ER. They have significant c7-T1 level nerve impingement verified by MRI last night. They were told the were not be admitted to the hospital because they are not cardiac. New COVID related rule. Otherwise they would have been admitted hours ago. Still believe this not causing STUPID medical decisions? GFY. You panty wetting fear mongers are the cause of this. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Unlike being able to stay home to avoid COVID, problem solved. this can’t be treated at home. Oh and because of the do gooders trying to save people from themselves from ODing on opioids, the plan is to send home with NSAIDS and steroids even though steroids have already failed to address the unbearable pain. Steroids were the telescope solution as you can’t prescribe opioids without a face to face visit. Even with an in person visit they don’t want to prescribe. Even with clear MRI evidence, and medical evidence that they would have admitted to the hospital except for CoVid rules. This is no small hospital. It is a big multihundred bed facility that is empty except for cardiac and maternity. And maybe one or two COVID cases. Maybe.

This response will be killing more than it is saving.

Yep, they excluded way too many patients to keep beds open for something that hasn't come to pass and doesn't appear to be ready to explode anytime soon.

How do you know how many COVID cases they have?

Might want to try a different hospital. Or get the person's doctor to order an admitting.

Post the hospital info so we can check into this new policy. Might want to contact your local news too, get the word out.

Yes. Agree with you. Sad state of affairs. Not just "covid-911". Most Dr's are afraid to prescribe opioid based pain killers due to the small 1% of bad apples (Dr's) or due to the nurses or orderlies in assisted living facilities stealing them from the patients. Law abiding people get punished for the relatively small number of abusers out there. This has been going on a long time. I think part of it is Dr's worry more about themselves (and the gov't 2nd guessing them) than compassionate treatment of their patients.

I drive by my local hospital and it doesn't seem that busy. Certainly less busy than before the covid nonsense. I think society in general has become mentally and morally weak compared to previous generations. I had an aviation related medical doctor who continued to practice into his late 80's. Medical degree gives Dr's the ability to think on their own, but new Dr's either worry about themselves (liability) or don't realize they are given latitude to treat patients as they see fit.

I hate to say it, but we collectively voted for this. My vote is consistently for people who uphold the constitution and our freedoms. Each crisis has resulted in loss of freedom ("Patriot Act" after 9/11, etc).

Dr's need to be in it to help people and not for a paycheck, but maybe this is naive of me. Not sure this helps, but we are all affected.

One of the admissions people said they had only admitted two people this week. You don’t believe me, don’t care.

Opioids require a Face to face visit.

Yep, this has upended routine and non COVID emergent care.

The opioid limits have truly been an affair of the good suffering for the bad. All states are different, however, in most states, ER docs can prescribe up to 7 days of narcotics for acute care if the empirical evidence supports severity of the problem. You might want to check in to that in your state.

I went through something similar last year with my terminally ill stepmom . I found the quality of care was different from one hospital to the next . We were in and out of 4 different hospitals , multiple times and ER’s before she died in 2 months . I lost a lot of respect for hospitals , doctors and nursing home nurses last year .

President Trump, Pence and Cabinet members will be blamed for fallout from Covid mitigation measures that are deemed to be too drastic. Remember that as you are tempted to attack government efforts to fight a novel virus that spread worldwide like wildfire.

This is a time to move forward as a united nation, using knowledge about the virus gained from 5 months of experience. Battles are won by attacking, evaluating, adjusting and moving forward again with better intelligence. We are moving forward in most states, and Republican governors are leading the way with Trump’s encouragement.

I'm sorry you're suffering through this.

I was at my doctors office last week and asked him if he was ever reassigned to Covid-19 duties at the hospital. He said that there were not enough cases to warrant a reassignment.

That being said, I live in a small suburb of Milwaukee and at first, everyone was pretty vigilant about maintaining social distancing and wearing masks. Who's to say if that's what kept people out of the hospital and if the healthcare systems have truly overreacted.

Wisconsin is somewhat back to where we were pre-Covid. Restaurants and bars are open and people are gathering in large groups. Time will tell if this was nothing more than a harsh overreaction or the real deal.

In the meantime, take care and try a different medical facility. I really hope you, your loved ones and your friends are able to get the medical care you need.

We have stopped travel from Brazil to the US because they have a very high number of COVID cases. We are still fighting the virus, and I think Trump is right to impose this ban.

Some it of it seems to be doctors and dentists using "the state won't let us do it" as an excuse because the the doctor/dentist is afraid of being infected or the hospital/practice is worried about liability.

Here some dentists and medical centers are doing anything they can get away with, others are making excuses not to see patients at all. My dentist is doing almost everything except standard cleanings, someone I know has multiple bad teeth and had an infected tooth get so bad the whole side of their face swelled up(pretty much the definition of a dental emergency) and their dentist won't do anything but send in a prescription for antibiotics and "call us when this is over".
