I recently acquired an Springfield Armory EMP, and compared it to my primary carry , the Kahr PM9.

The first thing to surprise me is that the overall length is about the same:

The EMP is about 1 inch taller:

The Kahr is still "king" in the weight department. I did not have measuring equipment, the polymer Kahr "felt" half the weight of the EMP.

Took the EMP to the range today, it was a tack driver. Like all 1911 platforms, it felt natural in my hands. Ran 200rds through it, no hiccups whatsoever.

I know I will still be carrying my PM9 most often, primarily because it is lighter.

When I owned my MK9 I rented a EMP 9MM and compared them at the range. As much as I liked the 1911 features of a safety and general feel, I didn't think it would be worth the premium to buy it over the Kahr.

What's the mag capacity on both? Both nice pistols, btw!

I have a good friend who owns the EMP......a "barbecue" gun for sure! This is good enough reason to own one, but a ccw should be an "all business" type of gun......like the Kahr.

I'd love to own an EMP, but I carry a MK40!

I bought the EMP awhile back and ended up trading it off. It was almost to nice to carry and even if it wasn't I just did not see carrying the extra weight since I have found my Kahr to be equally as accurate. With the EMP I was not gaining much but losing the easy of carry of the Kahr.

Where did you get that floorplate finger extension for your Kahr mag?

That's an easy one. PM9=Kahr. I'd carry an EMP, but I wouldn't even let somebody hang around with me who was carrying a Kahr.

I own an EMP 9mm and its my primary carry. I dont understand the point of comparing a plastic single stack to a metal single stack just to say the metal one is heavier? I'd say that would be very obvious.

That is called comparing options and weighing the pluses and minuses of the different platforms. It is what people do when they try to decide between two very different items. If they were identical then it would just come down to which you think is prettier.

Its hard to say...I like them both.

My attire dictates what I carry, most often it is the Kahr that I carry because I can have it on me with a simple pocket holster, in my front pocket (or back pocket in jeans.)

With the beaver tail it looks to be an inch or so longer than the PM9.

I don't think the beaver tail lends itself to pocket carry like the PM9 does but I like the looks of the the EMP.

    Thanks for the pics.
