OK guys, I gave up on the crockpot BBQ idea and did it in the oven. I found this incredible and simple rub recipe I used although I added about one and a half teaspoons of cayenne and used minced garlic out of the jar.

Make sure to massage a bunch of cheap yellow mustard on that butt before you apply the rub, makes it mo betta.

That sounds pretty good and I'm glad you gave up on the Crockpot BBQ.

This is my favorite rub and the one I almost always use when smoking boston butts for pulled pork. I've used it on ribs too and it was good:

    SOUTHERN SUCCOR RUB

From the Book by Cheryl and Bill Jamison “Smoke And Spice”

    Ingredients

    •1/2 Cup Ground Black Pepper
    •1/2 Cup Paprika
    •1/2 Cup Turbinado Sugar
    •1/4 Cup Salt
    •4 tsp Dry mustard
    •2 tsp Cayenne

ps If you don't have it, and plan to do real BBQ at any time, you should get a copy of "Smoke and Spice".

And no, you don't taste the mustard.
