My FOID is being processed. it’s Day 12. From what I hear, it may be a while. I signed up for a Concealed Carry Class. Since I’m a veteran, I only have to take 6 hours vs 12 hours.

I cannot legally transport a handgun to the class without a FOID, so I’m gonna rent one. They didn’t have any Glocks but they did have a Sig P226 in 9mm.

Right after completing the class, it's mandatory social custom to then go to every bar, BBQ, party, gathering, etc. and inform everyone of all the things you learned, so they can know it too - especially your gun people friends / family.

To be cliche, got a few exes in Texas but I’m no longer there. My son lives near Ft Hood, so I’ll be visiting good ol’ Texas over the years.

Plus, Texas has the best chain of gas stations known to man - Buc-ees!

As far as handguns and ccw you live in the wrong state. But I assume there are some redeeming qualities there.

I’ve never been arrested yet I feel like I’m being treated like a criminal. I served in the Army and got an honorable discharge. Even put in 3 months in the Texas State Trooper Academy before tearing a rotator cuff and having to leave the program. The gun regulations in Illinois for law abiding citizens are quite ridiculous.

Anyway, I’ve got family and friends in Illinois.

God help you if become one just because you have to shoot a real criminal. I live in an area where I would have a jury on my side which means they don't prosecute justifiable shootings in the first place. If I did not live in such a place and couldn't move I would get good carry insurance.

I hear you. Unfortunately anyone living in a hard core left wing liberal state who wants to own a gun is automatically considered a criminal.

Pay no attention to PB, this is not true at all. What EVERYONE does afterward is a desk pop. THAT's what you need to do...

My wife has decided to get a carry permit. Down here it's just fingerprints and cash. $75 I think, but I'm not sure as I've never bought a permit to carry.

    Good for you OP.

Illinois needs all the honest concealed carriers they can get.
    Stay safe.

I hope you post the information about the class. My Best Friend in Illinois told me his was excellent, not just shooting, but law, holsters, different guns and so forth. He also told me hi Son took a course that was a joke. Shoot a paper plate ten times with anything. That was it.

Gotta Buc-ees alert! That makes sense though as you can transport a gun in your car in Texas without an LTC

Where is " down here ". In FL, it's not much more than that.

As someone who travels into and through Illinois I can assure you there are no redeeming qualities there, aside from the residents determined to exercise their Second Amendment rights.

Flat topography (boring); "progressive" political domination of the entire population (destructive and deadly). Cold, uncomfortable climate (with the exception of far south areas of the state).

The Peach State, although I’ve read South Carolina actually produces more peaches than we do. No matter, as long as they are free stones.

OP, just remember the Four Rules of Firearms Safety and you will be OK.

The Instructor may have his own set of additional rules that you should pay attention to.

I always tell my student my own set of rules and that they are very important beginning with #1 which I stress is the MOST important.

    # 1 - DO NO SHOOT THE INSTRUCTOR.

    # 2 - Do not shoot the person on either side of you on the line.

    # 3 - Do not shoot yourself.

So far, so good. None of my students have ever left my class with more holes than they showed up with.

    ;)
