I am having trouble focussing on front sight and placing it into proper alignment with rear sights - something to do with 52 year old eyes. Any advantage to colorizing my front sight, like red or something?

    Tex,

I've tried it with no success. My eyes are older that yours. Black on black seems to work best for me.

Same age, same problem, keep the sights black and pray for alot of sunshine when you shoot.

I will be 62 next month, wear bifocals and just had Cataract Surgery. My best advise for GSSF is Black on Black sights and look for the stage setup with the best light. I have tried them all and my Black Bomars are the best I have found. If you don't reload and shoot only factory ammo Heinies are also great. Thats been my experience since shooting GSSF since 1999.

I had a pair of glasses made with the right lens (my dominate eye) set for the front sight, the left set for distance. I use Bomars for sights with a thinned front blade. The Bomars and the glasses help.

As I age with perfection, black on black sights seem to work best for me.

It has already been said, Bo-Mars with black on black, thin the front sight to .100" - .110", and like someone else said, pray for a sunny day. Or, get yourself a red dot. That will be my next move.

I have found that a fiber optic front (preferably green) mated to a square notch rear with some kind of white (bar, dot, outline but not dual dots) is the hot set up for me. ;f I have these on all the Glocks I use for competition - except one lonely G17 that, because of the unfathomable GSSF rules, has a metal blade front sight painted day-glo orange. :(
