I picked up a 1991 Sig P228 today in very nice condition. This is the second 228 I own. This one has an unusual trgger because it is grooved. My other one has a smooth faced trigger as do all the other Sigs I have. Anybody out there have a grooved trigger on theirs? As you can see it has the German proof marks on the slide and on the frame. Also has matching serial numbers on the barrel, frame, and slide. The gun is in very good condition for its age. The only down side is only one magazine and no box or target. Anyhow I have included the required pictures, can't wait to shoot it.

Beautiful P228 and IMO one of the finest 9MM combat pistols ever made.

I have a Swiss Zurich police trade in and it is an oh so sweet shooter.

I can't anser your question on the grooved trigger as my proofed 2001 P228 has the smooth faced trigger. My 1996 vintage P220 however has a grooved trigger.

Again congrats on a beautiful P228.

Thanks for looking. My question was answered over on the Sig forum see below.

" Early Classic-series SIG pistols had grooved triggers like yours. Nice gun, BTW."

Congrats, great find. I've had mine about 12 years now and it has a smooth trigger. Hands down the best gun I own. I will never sell it.

I've got an old Dept. P228 DAO that is a KB 1991 with a grooved trigger. My S/N starts with 132XXX.

I've since put on a smooth short trigger, which is very nice.

I suggest putting the new version of the trigger bar spring on and a pair for Sig P229 grips. The new spring is more reliable (the old style breaks and renders the gun hors de combat). You will need a new right grip plate.

    Enjoy,

Looks great! Congrats! I also have a P228, also made in W. Germany in 1991. I originally bought it as a gun my wife can keep by her around the house, but after getting it to the range..... I either need to find something else that she'll like or buy another one for her, because this one is MINE!
