Well here's the only pic of my brother's Lab that I have, goofing around with our Dutch Shepherd and my parents' Shar Pei/Golden Retriever mix.

My boy, Noah. Not too bright, but extremely loveable.

Here are my two. The older one i actually just put to sleep this afternoon (1/29/07) and burried in my backyard. She came from a puppy mill in lancaster, PA 13 years ago. The younger one came from a breeder in PA.

Sorry for your loss Dan. That is a hard thing to go through. She had a good run being 13 years old. I see too many labs passing on at half that age.

yeah she developed a tumor on the back of her leg about 5 months ago or so and thats when they determined she had cancer. She was retaining alot of fluid. She stopped eating alot of her food in the past week and stopped drinking. She was just eating snow mainly. She got up and did what she wanted to do during the day but at night you could hear she was really breathing hard and wasn't comfortable. I dug a hole in the garden in my back yard just before taking her to the vet at 1:30 yesterday afternoon. She walked out to see what i was doing and layed down next to me there while i was digging. That was tough.

We just didn't want her to get to the point where she was going to suffer. We probably could have dragged it out a few more weeks, but it wasn't worth it. She still had her dignity.

I really admire that Dan. It takes a lot of love to be able to do that and recognize when the time is at hand. I've gone through this before and know how difficult it is.

I am curious to know if having your other dog with you has made this any less painful. To me, it was very hard to come home to an empty house and I often thought that having a second one would provide some comfort.

It sure is easier. Yesterday when i sitting on the couch all upset, my other one was jumping on me, scratching my leg to pet him and was full of joy. This morning he wasn't so happy though when he couldn't figure out where his buddy was. But yes for sure it makes it easier. He keeps you busy also. I can imagine if you had a dog that took alot of your attention love and it just suddenly stopped, you'd be missing something. At least now i still have something to keep me on my toes. Especially when i had to chase him out of the compost pile last night at midnight in the 20 degree weather!

I don't know why, but for a male Yellow Lab that is the perfect name.
