Not a safe practice, especially with a gun without a manual safety.

    http://www.gunguys.com/?p=2234

Albany police Sgt. Kinshishi Adams, 34, was lying in bed Sunday when a .40 caliber pistol she kept under her pillow discharged and struck her in her left wrist, Dougherty County Police Chief Don Cheek said.

Adams was listed in good condition Tuesday at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, hospital spokeswoman Valerie Benton said.

"She sustained an extremely serious wound to the left wrist and underwent surgery (Sunday) night," Cheek said. "Everything indicates it was just a freak accident. She apparently sleeps with a weapon under her pillow, and somehow it discharged.

    jack:

    Thanks dude.

Curious... its a pistol and it might also be a 1911. maybe she accidentally pulled the trigger and the safety was disangaged accidentally, notorious ang mga 1911 ata dito (saw it happen to my friend pag bunot nya from the holster naka-off na).

I assume also that the gun has a chambered round, otherwise the gun would not fire.

IMHO, I'm safe, I think. Here is why: I dont load the first chamber of my wheelgun and its holstered.

    like so:

IMHO, the 1911 is the safest pistol by your bedside; it has a grip safety and a thumb safety. A revolver with an empty chamber will protect it from accidental discharge when dropped, but it will still discharge if the trigger is somehow squeezed. I think this is a better idea:

    http://www.makarov.com/articles/0202.htm

It is too far for a sleepy head to accidentally or unconsciously fondle while asleep, yet close enough for immediate use.

^I agree with you re: accidentally squeezing the trigger.

But my bedstand is the first place kids at home look into for spare change. Safer to keep it in a locked cabinet or drawer, but that defeats the purpose of a bedstand gun I think.

Thanks for the link but I cant use the bedside holster, again I cry "kids!".
