Ive got a smooth bore vepr 12.

I am looking for the most powerful 3" shells i can find just for the novelty. Ive shot them before and its pretty bad. So im planning on changing the trunion and adding a kynshot recoil reducing tube and a fab defence gl shock to see how much difference it makes.

Anyway...so my question is...there are some shells...one type of winchester slug is advertised at 2000fps but it says its for rifled barrels.

Im guessing it will fire either way but will there be a significant velocity loss or will it be way off? Is there any reason not to use it?

I see others that say they are for rifled barrels only.

Brenneke makes a rifled slug thats around 600 grains and does 1500fps.

Dixie slugs has a 730gr slug.

    Any recommendations or advice?

Look for loads with max dram. That will give you a good kick.

The main reason not to use sabot slugs in a smooth bore is that they won't stabilize, and you get very poor accuracy. At roughly $3 a shot, it's just a huge waste of money. Try the Brenneke Black Magic slugs you mention.
As for pellet count in buckshot loads, just look up ammo for sale on Midway's website or wherever, it'll be noted.

    Thanks

    I was looking at 00 buck in 3" and 2 3/4".

15 balls vs 8. Pretty impressive difference. Though there is a velocity loss.

The Brennekes are as good as it gets in a smooth bore slug. They are accurate past 100yrds, make a full 3/4" hole in the target and hit like train since they are a full Wadcutter profile.
