Today was blasting day, however it was a group outing and I was playing the host, so I didn't have a lot of chance shooting my own guns. However, I did run a few cylinders through the Blackhawk Convertible 9mm and the old Colt Detective Special that I picked up about three weeks ago.
I don't even know why I bothered shooting the snubbie on single action. The gun would shoot fine but I can't shoot these snubbies worth a damn on SA. You'd think that SA fire would be accurate and easier to shoot, but it isn't. I shot high and I knew it. DA is a lot more on target, both with this gun and other snubbies (hell, with other regular size wheelguns too).
7-yds SA was high and I kept spreading the shots horizontally. However, it was on target and the group was decent and I knew that it was me spreading the shots horizontally, so I moved onto DA firing.
7-ds DA was a lot better with a circular group, but the group wasn't too tight. But I was running short on both time and ammo and needed to check for functionality more than anything. So I proceeded to 10-yds for DA shooting. The 10-yds group is about the same size as the 7-yds group, which is pretty sweet. At this point I ran out of .38 Special ammo.
The hard plastic grip was quite nice. Fitted the hand well and kept the recoil well in check. Alas, it is also bulky and interferes with ejection as seen in the last photo. I didn't have any speedloader on hand to see if the grip would interfere with speedloader operation, but I think that it will. So, I'm going to have to find some factory wooden grips or just leave it be and just use the gun as a New York Reload.
