I would just like to hear everyones opinions, or, preferrably, developed arguments for or against ultra cheap steel cased ammo. I currently have no problem shooting the stuff through my glocks, but I balk on putting it in my Kimber. I asked myself why I do this and realized I have no good reason. Can anyone offer some advice?

Thanks,

C.

When I find Winchester White Box, PMC, Blaser Brass or Federal on sale for <$10 I buy a couple of boxes min. The steel case stuff runs about the same cost, so I stay with brass cased ammo. I've shot some .45ACP Wolf in my springfield and some .30carb. Wolf as well but I'd rather use brass.

In the last 10 years, at least 90% of the ammo I've used has been steel cased commie stuff, and I've never had one issue whatsoever with it. Can't say the same for the cheapo federal and WWB that most people rave about.

My Uncle has both a Para Ordinance 14/45 and a Kimber, and they neither one will digest the steel cased commie rounds with any consistency. When he puts them in his G21 or G30, no issues at all.

It certainly won't hurt your Kimber, but it just may not run 100% on the stuff.

I've seen more jams with wolf than any other brand of ammo. Almost all of them were due to the lacquer/polymer coating gumming up the gun. I shy away because of that. Of course, with domestic ammo quality going to hell, it might not make much difference anymore.

For just range and plinking the steel is great. My Glocks shoot it as good as brass. And as far as gumming up, they don't use the lacquer coating any more.

The indoor range I shoot at, requires brass only and does check your ammo. For my 19 and 26, I use mostly Monarch Brass 115gr. @10.49 a box and also WWB 115gr @ 12.99 a box. It gets expensive shooting 800 rounds per month. The range charges 17.99 a box so I don't purchase from them.

Both of my 23s get WWB 180gr and I've never had any failures or brass to the face with any brand of .40 S&W. It sells for about 16.99 a box.
