Question about the use of reloaded ammo in Glocks. I am interested in reloading my own ammo and I was wondering if you can shoot reloaded ammo in Glocks? I have seen Hickok45 does it so I am almost certain I can but I am just curious about what they truly recommend. I have heard that you're not supposed to shoot reloads in Glocks... Just looking for some feedback on this issue. I have seen all of Hickok45's reloading vids but always interested in any more tips you all may have on reloading also

Well, Glock says not to in the manual but there sure are a lot of people on this forum doing it.

One point most people make is to only shoot your own reloads. Don't trust someone else's.

I learned that the hard way with a flame shooting revolver that ended up with a warped cylinder!

Yes you can. Pretty much all gun manufactures will have a warning in their literature against shooting reloaded ammunition with their firearms. The main thing is to not shoot lead bullets through Glocks polygonal barrel, the generous chamber and weak case head support.

I have shot thousands of my reloads through gen 2 G23 which has even less case head support than the newer generations and have had no problems what so ever.

Every gun manufacturer recommends against reloaded ammo. I guess it's a liability thing. I ONLY shoot reloaded ammo that I reload myself. I've been doing it for 40 years that way...I couldn't afford to shoot as much as I do otherwise.

Just stay away from any lead bullets in a Glock or any other hexagonol barrel. They tend to lead quickly raising pressures; could go to dangerous levels. Stick with jacketed or plated bullets and you'll be fine with your reloads.

I shoot reloads (plated-jacketed-lead) thru my G22 and G20. The G20 has had 150 factory rounds and about 5.000 reloads shot thru it. The G22 had had around 450 factory rounds and 10,000 reloads so yes I believe you can shoot reloads thru Glocks.
The no reloads is lawyer speak (CYA) to protect Glock against folks who damage their guns from bad ammo.
And yes I shoot hard cast lead in mine. The 175gr LSWC's I use are the most accurate ammo up to 25 yards that I have shot, either reloads or factory.

If you want to make your own cheap lead round nose ammo it might be advisable to buy an extra non-hexagonal barrel from Lone Wolf unless you will be very meticulous in cleaning the lead out of the original Glock barrel. I have read that a 40 kaboom is breathtaking and sometimes smarts.

Do NOT shoot soft lead reloads.

You can use (reload) hard lead bullets, or copper-plated bullets such as Rainier and Berry. I also shoot any jacketed bullet, particularly anything that is sort of round-nosed, such as JHP, XTP's, RN Remington, etc.

Like others have said, buy an aftermarket barrel if you are planning on shooting lead.

I have a G17 bought in January of 2009 with 40,000 plus rounds through it, probaby 37,000 of which are my reloads. I do a LOT of competition shooting (USPSA, IDPA, GSSF). Most of the people who do this sort of thing have to reload.

For example:
I can reload 1000 9mm rounds for around $128.
Go to Walmart, and it's gonna cost you $220 if not more.

That's $100 per 1000 savings, means a lot to me, my press has paid for itself several times over. Realize.. I do NOT "save money" by reloading. But I do get to shoot more rounds with the money I have allocated to ammo.

As explained to us in an armorers course, Glock says no reloads because if it blows up with factory loads, the factory will normally replace the gun. If you blow it up with your reloads, or those from someone else, the problem belongs to you and Glock isn't going to replace it. Too many lawyers covering their collective behinds.

That being what it is, I have shot thousands of reloads through my G19 with no problems. I shoot Berry's plated bullets and not pure lead. The ones I load myself are the only ones I run through my guns.

Think about it this way.
Even in the highly unlikely event you get a KB from shooting properly prepared reloads, the chances of actually getting seriously hurt yourself are pretty remote. Usually its a sore hand, perhaps some polymer acne (assuming you are wearing the correct eye protection) and a busted gun. I have another gun.

Glock may replace if factory ammo is used. But, glocks are dirt cheap. So, if they don't, so what? The money saved on ammo more than pays for another anyway.

I started reloading a year ago. Did it on the cheap, bought tools/equipment a little at a time and as I needed it. First thing I bought was a tumbler and media. Then progressed to a Lee Hand Press and RCBS dies in 9mm and .45ACP.

I've loaded just 500rds of 124gr Berry's plated 9mm, but I'm enjoying it. I have plenty of casings, primers, powder, but I'm in need of bullets in both calibers now (doing Precision Delta next). Haven't started doing .45ACP.

Once into reloading, do all the research. It helps to have a friend/s that reload to give feedback. Do starter loads and work up from there. Don't be afraid of squibs or kB's because as long as you stay within the boundaries and follow the 'rules', anyone can do it safely. I even showed and had my Mom load a few rounds when she visited and was interested.

Here's my latest 100rds I made. Takes me two hours to make 100rds with my Lee Hand Press. I've got the time, plus upgrading to a Dillon isn't in my budget.

I couldn't find a decent digital scale in my price range, but I've been very happy with my Redding balance scale.

I don't have my figures in front of me, but I have $350-$400 in equipment/tools. In materials (not counting casings), I have around $0.12 a round (3 cents for primer, penny for powder, 8 cents per bullet).

I was about to make a similar thread. I went to the gunshop the other day, i asked for some 9mm bullets. I told the salesman i was going to the range later and he told me "Why buying factory bullets when you can use reloads at the range?"

Those reloads are pure led ones. And people at the range use them everyday with Glocks like a normal thing.

But then i keep reading led bullets are a bad thing for a Glock. What should i do? The diference on price is huge (bullets are too expensive here...).
