Does anyone know what book this new movie is based on?
Point of Impact by Stephen Hunter. The best of the Bob the Nailer series, IMHO.
Holy crap! How did I miss hearing about this being in production?!
Don't get your hopes up too high. It features Marky Mark in the lead role.
Tom Gresham talked about this on his show and lamented about the star. I'm going to get the book!
I don't know, Wahlberg is a good actor. His politics are irrelevant to me if the movie is good.
The story has changed a bit with Swagger as a much younger and still married dude, but the core of the story seems the same. Time will tell it is any good.
I'm reading the book now (it is an amazing book, keeps me up late at night reading page after page)...
and I have to say, I'm reading the book and the image of Bob Lee Swagger, a true reclusive Vietnam sniper, a loner, a calculating perfectionist, a stone-hard old sonofawitch... and I keep thinking to myself, "Mark Wahlberg?! His age alone keeps him from filling these Bob Lee Swagger shoes."
I can only hope the movie is 1/2 as good as the book, and that it keeps the same plot, but I'm willing to bet that a youngish Wahlberg changes the whole personality of what Bob Lee is in the book.
If I could do the casting, here's who I picture as Bob Lee Swagger when I read the book:
Someone like Tommy Lee Jones. Stoic, quiet, capable.
No... wait... I came up with someone better than Tommy Lee Jones for the role of Bob Lee Swagger.
Sam Elliot. Yes. Perfect.
Anyone but Wahlberg, I can't stand that guy.
They killed an amazing book by casting Wahlberg for Swagger. Have you read the book, Paulie?
Yes, I have read the book. To me Wahlberg is a big disapointment in this role.
Good, because if you hadn't read it, I'd be sending it to you on Monday.
You kill me with your avatars, where are you finding them?
They're illegals, with no papers. Keep quiet and I can get you a few. Damn things work 24 hours a day!
I'm reading the book (Point of Impact) yet again. I read it every few years. One of my most favorite books of all time if not the favorite. I can't get over how much more I like it every time I read it. I have nothing against Wahlberg but I do not think he could capture the role of Bob Swagger. Bob Swagger is the book.
From what I have heard, Walberg is a convicted FELON, after an assault when he was in his late teens, IIRC. He shouldn't be able to even touch a weapon, movie or otherwise, IMHO. Unless of course he wants to champion felon rights, and legally restore that right to criminals who have served their time.
Why couldn't they cast say.....Tom Berenger or someone halfway credible to the role? I'snt Wahlberg a libtard anti?
Sam Eliott, Scott Glenn, or Tommy Lee Jones would have been perfect. Hell, I could have lived with Tom Berenger also...
I'm wondering what changes will be made. ...
he's not old enough to be a Desert Storm vet...so I guess he's a vet from the current conflict?
The book has him shooting bolt actions similar to the M40, but in the stills I have seen it appeared to be all 50 cal things...http://www.shootermovie.com/
there is the sight to the main movie site....
I'd went with Tommy Lee...yep Tommy Lee...Maybe Willis?
who is the guy playing 'Pork/Memphis', or will he be "Pork" since they won't be doing the widow of his spotter angle...man.i gotta get my book out
wife says we can go see it opening day..it's spring break and I'm taking them to the Ringling Bros that night..so we can go when the kiddo is in daycare...
least they got an M4!!
I've not read the book, but soon will. I know the basic premise and was also disappointed with Mark Wahlberg getting the nod for this one. Everyone that has read this book raves about it. I'm getting it this week.
