I took the plunge last week and ordered my first gun from an online source (Bud's-no complaints). I ordered my M&P 45 last Saturday and had it in my hands by Wednesday.

Took it out to the range and after about 90 rounds or so I noticed that the white dot in the front sight had been knocked out. The sight is still in place-just the white dot missing.

Bummer experience for any new gun, but hey every product ever made has occasional flaws, and I happened to experience one. I'm not up in arms against S&W now, but I do want it fixed.

Called customer support and they are sending me a FedEx box to send it back to the factory to be repaired.

NOW: What is the procedure on this? Do I take my gun in the box to FedEx and are they going to deliver it back to my house when they fix it? Or do they have to send it to somebody with an FFL? I've never had to send a gun back to the factory, what should I expect?

    Thank you.

They will sent it right back to you. No FFL needed.

Few things you might want to do.

    1) Take some "before" pistures.
    2) When you pack, include a note as detail as possible for your problem. (Sight dot fall off, in this case)
    3) Call S&W 3 days after you shipped off. Get the name for whoever answer your call, just incase.
    4) Wait for reply.

Krinkle- I'd like to know that also,am planning on sending a gun out
And have not done so since our 911 attack. Before that i just went back and picked it up,i was alittle nervous but they didnt ask any thing. Your going to have to send it back to them next day for sure. We should be able to get it back from fed-ex since their able to receive it and it is your
gun. Hopefully some one that has done this recently will answer.

if your only issue with the gun is the white dot on the front sight missing then you could probably just send the slide only to save your self some worrying that your gun is in the mail somewhere.
I'll admit first that I have no experience with S&W MP so maybe you need to send the whole gun for them to do work but when a buddy of mine had night sights installed on his XD he just sent the slide only to springfield to save on shipping (plus less headache knowing you have part of the gun still in your hands).

    just an idea.

S&W is paying for shipping (naturally) and they told me to send the whole gun.

Keep gun, replace with quality night sights. Problem solved.

Always get names, dates, pics and place all your info in th box and address on the outside.
    Get tracking numbers and receipts.
They will ship back to the address you gave them and must be signed for by an adult.
Usually a quick turn around for repairs.
I would ship it in the box it came in and put that in the Fed-Ex box for physical protection.
    Good luck on your repair.
    Forgot to add get insurance!

My suggestion as well. I know very very few people who have factory sights on a Glock. Haven't fondled err handled a M&P yet so I can't say if their factory sights are good or not.

Honestly, I'd just put a new white dot in and let it dry for an hour instead of being without my gun for a couple of months -what is that, a $3 repair if you get the sight dot stuff from a gun store, instead of using some other paint.

As already said, I would just send the slide. That's what I did with my M&P-45 when I complained about the finish. It returned with... added night sights.

I had a problem with a P238 that I had bought. Contacted the company who sent me a UPS label. I had to take it to a UPS shipping hub ( I live in Louisville, KY so not a big deal) to send it out. I shipped the whole gun. They sent it back to a shipping hub and sent me a notice. I took the notice and picked it up at the hub. A little bit of a pain but not too bad.

I've been needing to send my Kel-Tec P-11 back for repair since 1996:whistling:. I am a bit of a procrastinator, obviously.

I doubt KT will send me a FedEX box though - the difference between KT and S&W!!! Enjoy your M&P.....I wish I had bought one a couple years ago:dunno:

I considered that. But being as I had the gun for 2 days before it happened I figure it's best to send it back to the factory.
