    I'm sorry for your Wife.
    I hope She recovers quickly.

At my last routine Doctor visit he recommended I get the Shingles shots (2 several months apart).

I got the shot at WalMart.

I heard of "Shingles" but I had NO idea what it is.
From the Internet I saw that Shingles CAN BE REALLY, REALLY BAD.

I understand that the current shots are far better than in the past.

    Check with your Doctor.

When the Shingrix vaccine was first announced, I got on a waiting list at the local health department. It took around eight months before I got the first shot, no problem getting the second one on time. Several years ago I got the Zostamax but that vaccine isn't nearly as effective as Shingrix. I hear people making excuses for not getting it, can't help but regard them as stupid. After seeing what my mother went through with shingles years ago, I'd have paid a thousand dollars for each shot and still considered it money well spent.

Best wishes for your wife, ateamer.

    List?

About 7 weeks ago I walked into Wal Mart (where my Doctor told me to go) and immediately got the first shot and they told me to come back for the second in 2 to 4 months. No mention of a wait.

Supply caught up with demand, but for quite a while waiting lists were the norm.

Mrs Dood had a bout last month.

    Painful as hell. Almost literally.

God bless you and prayers for your Mrs Ateamer.

    That's what I thought.

    BTW.
I was told my arm would probably hurt the first day.
Funny thing was, it didn't hurt the first day but hurt (a little) most of the 5th or 6th day.

your mom likely received the old vaccine that is around 50% effective in prevention. The new vaccine is 80-90% effective.

OP, prayer for a complete healing and strength.

    Get it done.

If I had the slightest idea what "Shingles" is and how bad it can be, I would have gotten the shot years ago.

Although, from what little I know, the new shots are far more effective than years back.

Had shingles...they suck. Took the vaccine and hope it prevents another bout.

I started a thread about this back in 2018 -

A picture is worth a couple of shots.

I was told by my primary care that the vaccine is 90% effective. Not a guarantee, but I'll take 90% if that is all I can get.

Vaccinations have never caused me more than a tiny bit of soreness, but when I got my first of two Shingrix shots last week, I spent that evening with a nasty headache and the next two days with a really sore arm.

Far more mild than shingles, though.

Yes, I suffered through it back during hard times with little money and no health insurance. Right side and back being clawed by monkeys. Ran it's course in about 8 days.

A buddy and coworker recently had the shingles. He's barely 51 or 52, strong minded dude. He said the pain was so bad, he didn't care if he died. I'll be getting it as soon as I can.
